My local Ovation dealer claims their guitars include a $50 setup and a 1 year tune up at no charge. How important are these "extras" with Ovation guitars and does anyone know if the "on-line" stores would also include the setup sevice?

IMHO the setup charge is like going to a car dealership and finding out they put a set of $85 car mats and $250 in pin striping on the car.

I called World Music in Muncie Indiana and asked them about the set-ups. They seemed to think that when a guitar is set-up in Indiana, it will probably need to be re-worked when it lives in another part of the country so that's why they don't do anything to them. Interesting idea.

Update#2 after emailing them asking what was up(nasty)I got an email from them today saying it was shipped at 12 am direct from Ovation,so I guess a squeeky wheel does get the grease. ;)

Good work. we have been complaining about the lack of service in the industry today, anything that makes them improve is to be praised, keep up the good work and it's great that you got what you wanted. We all have to be the "squeeky wheel" or we will be the road kill run over by the unchecked monster of today's music suppliers.

Guitar sellers have 10,000 kinds of BS, set back and think about what makes sense and spend some time here before they take your money.
