Location: florida | i need some advice from my elders and peers...
i am going on the market for another amp now. i own a silvertone 1482 as of now and a fender frontman (for my room).
the amps i am now looking at purchasing are a
1. baldwin 2x12 combp amp (350 dollars)
2. 1950's danelectro model 68 amp (about 250 dollars)
3. have a custom made weber 5e3 amp (about 550 dolars)
can i get some feedback on what you guys/gals know about these amps and maybe help guide me into some kind of direction.
ps. are those baldwins solid state or tube? |

the baldwin will probably be a little sterile but it was in the time of crappy transisiters so it may have a "fuzz" tonality to it.
the dano will overdrive nicely but is not well made you probably need to go over it.
for reasons I wish not to discus I will not buy weber products |

The interesting thing is that some manufacturers back in those days made solid states which attempted to emulate tube amps.
I haven't played any of your amps so I can't comment on them. Though I have a solid state amp from the late 70's and it's good enough, and it's still going strong. |

True, some solid states don't have that tube tone, but some tube amps are weber grills too. There are plus and minuses to both. |

In fact, we now have two cookers
a weber, the one with the cast iron grill, which gives a great cooking surface.
And we also have a kahuna burner, for stir fry and deep fry. |

Or maybe it should be said "Baldwin, Dano" |

To some extent heat is heat, but there's a lot of nice 'little' things that make a good bbq grill nice to own. Of course it depends how much you will use it.

My gas grill is hooked right up to the house. No bottles to change, always there when I need it.
I had to use charcoal up north this last summer.
Didn't care for the "flavor" it added to the burgers.
I'll grill when it's 20 degrees in January as long as the wind doesn't pick up. |

Always had talked about getting out there t'see him . . . and never did . . .

Seriously Cliff... even the 'Ol Curmudgeon Al admitted he needed to come out again. Just avoid Crab Cakes, they don't do those so well around here, but every other seafood, especially Salmon... can't be beat.
Maybe You, Al, the significant others, and the OFC Northwest contingent need to plan for Vancouver Island Music Fest 2009. |

what do you guys think about the baldwin 2x12 with a tube screamer running into it. i already have that crunch tone amp (my 1482) so i am kind of looking for something a little different, and more reliable, but also it needs to be albe to dirty up a little bit when i need it to. i am looking for something that gets more of a country/jazz tone, but can go ballsy when i need it to. i am thinking the baldwin and then just make some of my own pedals from schematics and run into it. |

Location: florida | and also i was looking at the pignose g40v, a cool little amp that easily upgraded (with a new speaker) to a killer tube neil young(ish) tone amp. plus it is 40 watts, thats alot of wattage, i could run it into other exterior cabs/speakers and still have plenty of push from it with 40 watts of tube power. |

Do you have a few amps that are available and that's what's driving the questions? I would imagine you might find 1 person, maybe, that would be able to give advise on something so detailed as a baldwin with a tube screamer.
For my money, I'm looking to get either of the these three below. They seem to fit the sound description of what you're looking for as well.
The Carvin Nomad (or possibly BelAir) or the Peavey Delta Blues.
Both Carvin and Peavey are very reasonably priced. As for the Delta, Hartley says it's the best amp Peavey's ever made. The Carvins just have a nice tone to them in my ears anyway. I heard my first one while meeting with MR. Ovation here at a guitar swap event. When we heard it, our heads both turned to see where that sweet tone was coming from. In a room full of wailing guitars and amps (mostly vintage stuff), that says a lot to me when something sticks out like that.
I'm not versed enough on the one's you've asked about though, sorry. |

Location: florida | the pignose g40v is a new model
the bladwin 2x12 combo is very much an old thing
and the danelectro model 68 is old as well (like late 50's old)
and my silvertone 1482 is mid-late 60's.
yea i think i am going to go baldwin, it is just to rare at too good of a price to just pass up. plus i think it would get a pretty nice country/jazz tone with my "new" viper i just purchased |

Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | I've been listening to a Brian Setzer CD entitled Rockabilly Riot where he recorded all 23 numbers using a tiny vintage Supro amp. There's something to be said for old vintage amps. I love my '66 Bandmaster, but it would be a beast to lug around for gigs. My only suggestion is to stay as small and light as you can get by with, and we can all get by with less than we think. |

I found that Brian's not too easy to follow, but I've just about got Rock This Town now.
I need a reverb tank too. All these needs now that I started playing serious again, but no funds dammit. |
