OVATION 1868T Black Elite T Acoustic/Electric Super Shallow
According to the Ovation Fan Club model reference, the "T" indicates a AAA factory second. I phoned GuitarTrader about this and, after consultations with several staff, they insisted that the "T" was just a Ovation Model designation and did NOT indicate any type of minor imperfections from the factory.
What is the Elite 1868T and would it be a good buy for $700 with case? A couple of very minor finish flaws would not bother me much but a bad job on fret wire finishing (as seems to be common on Applause guitars) and similar problems would be unacceptable. |

Location: SoCal | The Elite T is a new model this year. The T stands for textured. It has a very light textured finish over the entire body of the guitar. Do a search on it from the first page of this web site. There's been a lot of discussion on the guitar, and the consensus of those who have played it is that it's a damn fine guitar. |

I called Ovation and I guess I'm not the first person to get confused. The new "T" model is described in Ovation's July 2002 news release but not in their model list. A web search on the "T" designation turned up the ovationfanclub model definitions, which indicated it was a AAA factory second.
However, the ovationfanclub postings make it clear that the 1868T is a quality guitar. |

- First Digit: FIXED ID (almost always "1" except as listed)
4 Pacific Rim Manufacturer
6 Adamas
S Factory Second (denotes slight imperfection, PARITIAL WARRANTY)
T AAA ("Triple A" denotes extremely minor imperfection, but FULL WARRANTY) |

Location: Las Cruces, NM | Is the Elite T "super shallow"? I thought it was the mid depth, my grandson also called it super shallow when we were discussing it and I corrected him that it was mid depth with full acoustic sound. I consider the new Viper super shallow and not suitable or intended for acoustic playing. Are any other catalogs describing it as "super shallow"?

The Elite T is offered in both mid depth and super shallow bowl. Both are acoustic. The Viper you are refering to is a solid body with chambers in it. Different animal altogether. |

All the discussions on the board of the Elite T have been pretty favorable of it's acoustic sound so I guess the bowl depth is suitable. I recommended it to my grandson as an acoustic guitar (he has a gothic explorer and liked the gothic look of the T) .
