Learning how to play the guitar has been one of my dreams. I kept putting it off until recently, when I was online looking at prices and saw a Celebrity CK057 for 299.99 (New). I have always like the sound of the Brand and a little research I thought I was getting a deal. I like the idea of buying American, Didn't know it was made in Korea until a week later. Having 18+ years in the Military and the current state of Korea I'm having second thoughts. The Ovation web site says the Top is Spruce.. Is it solid or not?? Another question since the amps are swapable where can you buy upgrades and how much would this change the sound??

Thanks

As with many other things in life, you get what you pay for. For $299 new, the celebrity CC-057 is a great deal. Go for it - but don't expect it to play, sound or look like a $1000 USA model. It will be worth the $299 and a nice guitar for a beginner. Personally, I would not get too hung up on Korea or any other place of manufacture unless you have a real bad taste in your mouth from the military. I'm not too familiar with upgrading the pickup and pre-amp, but I would guess it's possible.
