I just got an elite mid-depth bowl and I am already tired of taking it in and out of the case three times a day. I want to know ya'lls opinion on hanging it on the wall from the tuners. I have hung up all my other guitars like this for years but have never had as nice a guitar as this one. I use a leather strap with something like button holes in the ends to slip over the tuining knobs and hang them on the walls. I got this idea from guitar center years ago, they hang all their guitars this way. Does anybody else do this and do you think that it will hurt my Ovation. Thanks, Tim

I have all my guitars out on stands around the house, with two hanging on the walls. But I'm using hangers that hold the guitars by the headstocks, not the tuners.

You're probably ok with what you are doing. I suspect that there won't be any problems. But don't you get tired of taking off the leather strap, or of having to tune the guitar up every time?

I never have to take the strap off. It doesn't seem to effect the tuning much because the leather doesn't usually touch the tuning knobs much. It supports the guitar on the inside of the tuning knobs more than on the knobs themselves. Does that make any sense? I have a hard time describing it in writting. Tim

ps. I have seen the way that you described it and that may be a better way to go.

I have a slew of hangers on the wall that hold the guitars by the headstock like Paul. Make sure they're good quality ones so the material doesn't harm the finish at the hang points, and also use good wall anchors!

The hangers cost about $15-$20 but I think they are worth it. And always try to drill into a stud for strength.

Take a 1/2" dismeter dowel and drill a hole in the wall stud. Use some wood glue to make sure it won't come loose. Then drill a 3/4" hole through the peghead (between the E strings). This way when you hang the guitar it goes right on the dowel. With the extra 1/4" it makes it easier to fit the guitar on the post. The wood dowel is much cheaper that the wall hooks.

kb5czr, CHK's Ovations in his house were never in cases, always on the wall on stands. The only time they went into cases was when they were banished to the basement to allow the batteries to turn into black fuzz.

You really advocating drilling a hole in the headstock? Can't believe that.

Where you been lately? Miles, Al, and Paul T are coming out for the NAMM show with dinner on Friday nite (along with KK from O). Why aren't you coming as well?

Check out the Hercules wall hangers, same secure grab mechanism as the Hercules stands.

Well boys
My anal retention tells me to keep my guitar in it's case when it's not being played, perhaps you've been infiltrated with those who hate musical instruments, and desire to see them damaged.

Somehow I convinced my wife to let me take over a walk in closet. I installed a small humidifier and put hangers on the walls (String-Swing, or something like that). So all my guitars are in one controlled location, but still easily accessable. AND the closet door LOCKS. The real puzzle is what to do with all the cases. I have a pretty high ceiling in my garage and was thinking aboutu installing a pipe hanging horizontally about 10 inches below the ceiling. I would slide all the case handles onto the pipe. Do you think it's safe to leave the empty cases hanging by their handles? Would be a shame for a handle to break and have the case land on the hood of the car below it. Dave

I've done enough NAMM shows to last a lunchtime but you all have fun.
Say Hi to the Collings and National folks for me.
The suggestion of the leather strap on the two E tuners is a really good solution. You should only drill holes in the T guitars,(hey, you gotta dump on someone)
