Location: Atlanta,Ga. | I agree with cliff,slot head adamas probably the best acoustic sound,although my wood top adamas is right there with it..If those are not available probably a 1687 Adamas or a early elite... |

Hard to say. I have an Elite 1537, a Custom Legend and an AdamasII. They all have their own unique characteristics.
In a way the Custom Legend is the coolest to play because it is a very light guitar compared to the other two. When I play it, the bowl really vibrates. I think it projects the best. The Adamas is deep and dark sounding, but sometimes I think the B string sounds "funny", not really as clear, kinda out of place. Its hard to explain. The Elite is somewhere in between, not as loud as the Legend, not as deep as the Adamas.
There, I've managed to murky things up a bit. They're all fine guitars. |

Location: Zion, Illinois | If someone asked me which on I thought looked better, I'ld have to go with the Custom Legend. That guitar just sparkles.
And back to the topic of best sounding accoustic, what about that Collector's with the redwood top I keep hearing about? How does that stack up against the other three?

Its almost like sound just jumps out of it. Can you tell that after 22 years I am still excited about that guitar?....Paul Hebert |

| I tend to agree with Paul about the old Adamas 1687. Its so full, and so even all across the board you never get tired of it. Its like having the New York Philharmonic right their in your lap and the remark about the sound jumping out I call the 3D affect. It’s that 3D symphonic ambiance affect that fills the head and life is good.
However… When it comes to pure acoustic punch with crystal clarity the W597 will grab the spotlight away from anything else in the room. This guitar has to be the king of finger style solos. When Its playing every other guitar sounds like a filler. It’s a 1597 on steroids. I have a Martin D35 Anniversary model that they didn’t make a lot of. It has some upscale features like high performance bracing and it sound like that of the best vintage Martins but if I play it in a tiled bathroom it sounds like an Ovation. Not just any Ovation it sounds like a 1769-AD5 played in the livening room. The AD5 seems to have some of the personality of both Adamas models with a little Martin thrown in and that ant bad. Of course If you want the ultimate big acoustic sound that none of these guitars can match you have to cheat a little and bring out a 1688. Played well I think nothing beats the old Adamas 12 string for that big acoustic sound. So I guess the moral is, Ovations are like Lays potato chips, its hard to have just one.

Location: puerto vallarta, mexico | i haven't played enough of the best ovation has offered to make a definative comment here, but to me, allot has to do with how easily you can get the sounds you want to come out of your guitar. if you were comparing a well placed single chord between guitars it is one thing, but for playability and clean easy response, so far i like my adamai, both ss 12 string prototype, and #862 6 string. they cooperate with me better than the rest, and as a result, to me sound the best. they also are the acoustic guitars i own that receive the highest praise from other musicians.
last night after just returning from los angeles, i played a marathon non stop 3 hour "set" at the club on the 12 string. it was a jam session venue and all other musicians fell in and out playing their woodie 6 strings. (a few had to drop out to re tune) the adamas and i never missed a tune. something that easy to play becomes a part of you and sure helps make good sound. |
