Location: Back in the Valley of the Sun Mesa Az. | I remembered you mentioned a while ago that your 72 Legend had a repaired crack. Looking at your gallery picture,I can say the crack in my Legend, followed the exact same path!
When I tried to feel through the soundhole to see if the crack went through the wood, there was no way to check, because the crack runs the same path as one of the face braces. Perhaps I am looking at more than a finish crack. Either way, there's not much I can do, until I can get a hold of this repairman.
Do you think I should unstring the guitar in the meantime, or does it probably not matter at this point?

Location: Scotland | Norse, this treble-side bridge to binding crack is quite a common problem with some Ovations from the early to mid-70's. The crack in mine happened in the USA before I bought the guitar & was repaired in the UK. The crack was in the soundboard. The guy who fixed it basically made the crack bigger and wedge shaped, and filled it with a wedge-shaped fillet of spruce with colour & grain matched as closley as possible. The finish was patched with superglue. As you can see from the pic it isn't cosmetically perfect, though it's more apparent from certain angles. If you take a look at the pic a few down, with me playing the same guitar, the repair can hardly be seen. The important thing is that regardless of appearance the repair is rock-solid and has been since it was done some 16 years ago. | |

Location: San Bernardino, California | If you want to examine the inside of a guitar one of those mirriors on an extendable shaft work pretty well. A flashlight helps. | |
