Have anyone ever tried one of these on their Ovations? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2506663542&category=7266

seems like a good idea to keep the top clean but i've heard people talk about the sound changing slightly. don't know if that's true???

Anything that weighs down the top of the guitar will change the sound. I've seen a friends guitar that the sound was just about killed by being refinished. It lost most of the treble and midrange.

These are significantly thinner & lighter than regular pickguards. I've used similar material sold as Flamenco guitar Golpes or tap-plates on some of my vintage guitars & non-Ovations some of which have exceptionally thin finishes. There is no perceivable difference in the response after installation. Thick finishes & huge plastic pickguards will have an effect on the sound, but not these things. Your arm resting on the top as you play has far more of a damping effect than a pickguard.
