Location: Thaon (FRANCE) near Omaha Beach | The tittle says it all : although it seems not to be recomended, is it possible to use an electric guitar amplifier with an ovation's electro-acoustic guitar ?
For example : an MG30DFX Marshall with a Celebrity model ? Can it sound good ?
Thank you for your advices ? |

An acoustic guitar produces a much wider frequency range than an electric, and requires tweeters in the speaker setup to reproduce a semblance of acoustic tone. An electric amp mated with a PA speaker cab sounds fine.
That being said, you can still use a straight guitar amp but don't expect to get your "unplugged" tone. |

Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | I'm at a similar conclusion of not using a guitar amp in general for the best tone (although you can with the right combination) but I find a Bass rigg, especially if it has a tweeter seems to work real well. I have a Nemesis by Eden and an Ovation Bass amp, both sound great with an elec/acousitc plugged in. My B15N sounds "ok" but does lack the top end. It sounds like a "normal" acoustic when plugged in, not an Ovation. I think the "midrange" control is more important than the tweeter or highs control when using a standard electric amp. You will want to pull the mids way down, to enhance the highs and deep lows of an acoustic sound. I think that's why the Bass riggs work so well as they are designed with little mid-range. |
