Location: Chandler, AZ | Does anyone have a lead(s) on replacement parts for older solidbodies? I've a '74 Deacon and the ganged volume pot has decided to set itself up as a zero Ohm element of the circuit (gets kinda loud) :( .
Does anyone have access to or leads for replacements? I only know that it wasn't something that I could pop around to the local Radio Shack and buy off the hook. |

Location: San Bernardino, California | If E1354 is the serial # then you probably have one of the early versions of the pre-amp. There were three versions that I know of. The first version had all of the lugs on one side of the control. A 500K dual ganged audio taper potentiometer of the right size should work.
If you have any volume control at all (even a little) the problem might be that the ground on the control has come loose. |

Location: Chandler, AZ | Yep - that's my serial number. I figured it was easier than some of the other handles I thought up... The pot is the dual with the leads ganged to one side.
I checked all of the normal things - even to the point of desoldering and resoldering it (all that Pace Microminiature repair training finally pays off :) ).
One other question - I am also eating batteries. I've checked the jack, and it properly opens when the cord isn't plugged in. |

Location: San Bernardino, California | I'd try insulating the circuit board from the shield to see if that helps. Thin cardboard works pretty good. The battery problem might be related to that as well. Also sometimes the output jack will get pushed against the side of the hole in the bottom (if that's where yours is). One thing that helps with that is to loosen the jack from the plate, rotate it 180 degrees and retighten. |

Location: San Bernardino, California | I got to thinking about the volume problem: I bet the circuit trace that supplys the ground to the control is broken. A close visual inspection should find it. Just solder a wire over the crack. Now the problem becomes: Why did it crack? |

Location: Chandler, AZ | I actually started there. The board is relatively pristine (reminds me of some Radio Shack projects I did back then). Were these things hand dipped :rolleyes: ?
The traces were all checked and are all good before I went on my pot hunt (I am an EE, after all - I do remember SOME of my schooling :cool: ).
I've got a source on the correct pot, so we'll see what happens when the part arrives.
