Location: Dallas, GA, USA | Everybody here likes to listen to music, and truth be told we all like some music that would make the others give us a hard time. As a musician, who are you embarassed to admit that you listen to?
I'll start...
I have CDs in my truck by Cledus T Judd (sort of like a country Weird Al Yankovic), the Bee Gees, and the Violent Femmes. I also sat here earlier and played along with most of the first album of Hot August Night by Neil Diamond. Porcupine Pie was particularly choice.
Don't leave me hanging out here to look like an idiot all by myself... :) |

Shawn Cassidy, Wasp (check out the credits)
Don Johnson, Heartbeat (credits again)
Jimmy 'Bo' Horne, Dance Across the Floor
Heatwave, Central Heating
and while definitely not guitar-able:
Tomita's Holst, The Planets
Meco, Star Wars and Other Galactic Funk
Some seriously unsavory slices in that list. |

Location: Caribou, ME | Well, I'll tell you what I have been known to listen to, and you can judge for yourself if anything is worthy of ridicule: bagpipes, sitar, Pete Seeger, old Sun rockabilly, "If I were a Rich Man", David Lindley, Bloodrock, the Big Bopper, surf instrumentals, Rednex, Sue Foley, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Primus, Sex Pistols, obscure reggae, Frank Sinatra, Junior Brown, Stompin' Tom Connors, Kid Rock, Ramones, Bow Wow Wow, the Specials, The B-52s, Oingo Boingo, The Plastics, The Stanley Brothers, Beausoleil, Stevie Ray, The Waitresses, Cat Stevens (or whatever his name is this week), Thorogood, Merle Travis, Glenn Miller..... on and on.
You point really hit home; we ALL listen to music that, if our friends saw the cd on the coffee table, "Uh, that's my sister's, she left it here...". But the way I figure it, if it sounds good to YOUR ears, then it's good music! Don't ever be ashamed of what stirs ya!
Anyone got a used sitar they'll sell me? |

Location: Fort Worth, Texas | I glad you guys get to listen to tunes at work! I try to bring CDs in, but as I'm in a IT support position I seldom get to listen without having to pause and/or turn down the tunes...
But on the way to work and at home:
Grateful Dead - taped off of local listener supported radio station KNON's Lone Star Dead Show
Greatest Western Theme Songs - some of this is real cheesy, but it has
Who Shot Liberty Valance
Richard Thompson - Amnesia
alt.country - CD I bought at the grocery store :p
with the likes of The Mavericks, Sun Volt, Billie Joe Shaver, Junior Brown, etc.
Leon Russell - Retrospective
Gene Clark - compilation
Dave Alvin - King of Califonia
The Waybacks - Burger After Church (playing in Dallas Saturday!)
Now I want to go home and crank up some tunes.

Location: Las Cruces, NM | I haven't seen a thing listed that I'd be ashamed of listening to, and about 90% of the artists listed above I have listened to at some time and have their CDs.
My problem is more what I have videotaped,
Country Homecomings with:
Christofferson
Billy Jo Shaver
The Geezenslaw Bros
Chet Atkins
Bobby Bare
Crystal Gale
Willy Nelson
etc, etc
The Buena Vista Social Club
Tribute to Townes Van Zandt
Willie again
Emmy Lou
a bunch of others
3 hours of Merle Haggard with about every major song he wrote.
Ray Price
with his long time piano player and arranger Moise who died not long after and sparked a beautiful article in a Texas paper from someone who had went to high school with Moise at a TX border town where his talent surfaced at an early age that showed up in the El Paso paper and I was lucky enough to find and save.
Hank Thompson with the original Brazos Valley Boys from the same Austin CL program that the above Ray Price show was on.
On and on, my vice is taping anything that has music in it, so I am surrounded by videotapes of Frank Sinatra, his daughter, etc. and I don't play CDs as much as videos as my TV is connected to a good stereo.

When you mentioned Nancy Sinatra, I couldn't help but reply...
Last year one Saturday my wife had the radio on an oldies station from Weatherford, TX - it's not very powerful and I can seldom pick it up, I'm not even sure if they still have the same programing, anyway, the DJ played Sugartown a song that had long been lost in the haze of my memory - until hearing it then. I just loved that song when I was a kid. I started searching the internet for lytrics/tab/fan info. I found the lyrics and figured out the progression, now if I can just convince the rest of the band that WE MUST PLAY THIS SONG!!
More to the point, on a subsequent search I found that Nancy has her own web site (I don't think it was up when I first started searching) and you can listen to all the hits!! And guys, YOU GOT TO SEE THE PHOTOS! :D
Nancy Sinatra
ENJOY!! |

Millie Vanillie, you have approached the unmentionable sin, in my generation it is like saying you voted for McGovern which nobody admits, even though he got over 200 votes. (I just know my wife voted for him)! |

You are right, I secretly put on an Englebert album and croon to the wife at times. It may not be kosher but it does work except when we go to a party and my wife says "Bailey sings just like Englebert, listen to this". How many cases of sudden laryngitis can a person get away with and remain credible? |
