There's an interesting old shiny bowl 12-string on eBay.

It's a small hole model and SUNBURST. The sunburst shiny bowl is a rare beast (same say it never existed). But the bridge is not original and the more I look at the photos I think that this might be a refinish sunburst. Something about the sunburst looks "non Ovation". But overall it does look nice. Dave

Having owned the only other shiny bowl sunburst ovation i have ever seen, i must say that the sunburst finish is dead on to the one i owned.I went into my photo album and looked at the pic.Its the same color sunburst.Although the bridge looks to have been replaced,i think the sunburst finish is original. At least best i can tell from the pic...If it is original ovation sunburst finish(i believe it is)This is one hell of a rare guitar in my opinion...After all, few 12 string shiny bowl models and then with sunburst even more rare..

I agree, it looks like the bridge is not original but isn’t the footprint of the old style bridge larger than the newer ones? If so, shouldn’t you see some remnant of the old bridge outline in the finish if this is the original finish?

Mike,

I had the same issue on my shiny bowl 12 (see photo in gallary). I had the larger winged bridge replaced with a smaller one. I'm not sure how they did it, but you can see no indication in the finish of where the old bridge was. Good work by Rich Beck Guitars here in Phoenix.

The old bridge had thinner wings and overall they were the same lenghth..Its very possible that the new bridge would cover over any footprint of the old bridge...AS far as sunburst shiny bowls ,you just never see them..I have only seen two...

As I recall....
The bridges on these were rosewood and were not bolted down. This was replaced at some point and it looks like it was done at the factory. They probably used an oversized bridge to cover all the old lines. We used to make oversized bridges for service for just this reason. When they started bolting it was just 2 and later three so this is a repair done quite some time after it was built. The s/n is there, What does the factory say about this one?

This would be a good guitar to have. Probably sounds great, it's got all the good stuff.
