Hello Everyone,

I'd like to ask a question I've pondered on a many a hour-Where do you "store" and/or "display" your O's? I'm curious and would like to hear about what kind of care or lack of care you guys give to your favorite geetars. I myself keep all my O's,banjos, mandolin, etc in their cases and in either the hall closet or one of my son's room. (that is when I'm not playing them) How and where do you guys (Miles,Photogazer,Samova,Bluebird to name a few) who have 30-40+ O's keep them? Who displays their guitars and who hides them away?(like me) Also how often do you clean & change the strings on multiple O's?....

....Mike

I know it's not a lot, but I've got 7 O's (and am bidding on one on ebay right now). They all get played on a regular basis and none live in cases. Right now I'm in my home office. There's one hanging on the wall and two on stands. In my bedroom, there are two more on stands and another hanging on the wall. Downstairs in the family room, there's one on a stand.

I've got two kids and two dogs. The only dings that have ever been put in these guitars have been by me, not them. They almost all get picked up and played almost every day.

To me, putting a guitar in a case at home means it never gets played. Maybe I'm living dangerously. Maybe not....

I keep 1 or 2 on stands and a few on the wall in my music room (usually rotate them periodically). The rest stay hung on the walls of a walk in closet in the same room, that has been fitted with a humidifier. My most treasured ones stay in the case. Dave

I keep my 12 string in the good old ovation case. My 1617 is on a guitar stand next to the piano. I play this one 3 or 4 times a day and most of my songs have been written with her. She's all cracked up but plays like a dream. Heck I'm gettin' all cracked up too but everything seems to mellow with age.

I always kept them out. Used to have wall hanging hooks and had 30 on the wall and about the same on stands. They look so good all out like that. Then we moved and there was only room for 2-3 out on stands. In our next place I'm thinking of hanging them on the walls like pictures. Probably use picture hooks and a stong shoe lace around the peghead. Not only can you look at them all the time, you can also always play them. Picture it, 25 of your favorites looking down at you. I'll probably have some stands too. I like the kind they had at the factory that hold the guitar by the peghead rather than have the gitter set in it.
It should be noted that our house has one basset and no kids so having stuff out is not a problem.

Speaking of the factory stands, does anyone remember what brand and model those stands were? I remember they had some kind of locking holder that was very easy to use and they were very adjustable.

I guess I'll reveal a little of my anal retentive ways, and show how I envy you guys that keep your guitars out where you can grab them and wail away at a moments notice. I keep all my instruments, sound equipment, accessories, songbooks, etc. all packaged up ready to load in the Suburban at a moments notice and go on a job or some other excursion, even though I have finally quit for good. I have done it for 40 years and my gear is in good shape from not being exposed to many different climates. My problem is, I read all those 70's advice columns in Guitar Player and every other book about how you had to take care of your instrument, polish and clean it and protect it from climate changes, and change strings when needed, and I missed out on wailing away with no guilt.

I do have mine out but the house is humidity controlled and the guitars are hung by bootlace on cupboard(?) hooks. No chance of coming down. I fastened two pieces of 3 1/2" pine board to the wall and staggered the height, allowing maximum OPF (Ovation's per Foot :) ) as the room is not that big...and it looks better that way.

Hi Mike:
Only 3 at home now. All on a "String Swing" hook that keeps them out and ready to play. And yes, like art they look good.
Having 2 sons and a dog... The stands made me nervous. Can a ball still hit one and... Yea.
I enjoy looking as much as playing. You know the feeling, Wow, that's a nice "looking" guitar...
You've got to pick it up...

My CBalladeer and Ultra12-string are both on stands (when they're not "working" and/or traveling). My SlotHead hangs on a wall over my bookcase. My Applause ukelele is perched upon the top shelf of a large, wall-mounted wooden CD rack.

They all are supposed to be hanging on the wall. I, admittedly, am an anal expulsive, so I tend to be surrounded by messes & chaos. I try to put them all to bed each evening, but some spend the night on the sofa, just like Yours Truly (they don't have GAS, I do). I need to make a couple more hangers for the "ground-dwellers", too. I make them out of 3 X 5 in. pieces of black walnut, with two pieces of 3/4 in. oak doweling, then screw them into the wall studs. 16 in, on-center, seems to be a good spacing, anyway.

If I am not playing them, they are always in their cases. I am just to paranoid that something would happen to them....Paul Hebert

Gosh, I feel like such an oddball. I keep mine in the case when not being played...

Of course unlike cwk2, I have 3 of those Bassets and they tend to run around (for short periods) and then lie down on most anything.

I keep my 1112-4 1975 model in a stand when I'm at home and in the case when I travel. It does not matter if I have it with me. When I'm on the road it is in the case. I do not want to have to beat my girls. One is a guitar player and I want to make sure that I keep her as far away from my guitar as she keeps me from hers.
