Nice Patriot you have in the Gallery. Beautiful guitar. Question for you. It seems I've seen an older Elite with the red white and blue Patriot design painted on it. Is this another form of the Patriot? Also, what is it's value as compared to a Legend of the same vintage?

Patriot only came in the brown with the stencil in the lower bout. It was available acoustic or with a pickup. Only 1776 made, trust that, it's a good number.
The other you refer to, I don't know. Someone else help here?

Norseman,

I used to own an early '80s Legend. It has a very balance tone. The Patriot, however, has "thunderous" bass response and the trebles are equally powerful. It may lack some finess but it's definitely a great sounding guitar. I would put the Patriot over my '80 Legend.

If I recall correctly, the Patriot has A bracing and an early 80's Legend may still have had the VT8 bracing pattern. There's a real difference between the two, with the A a much better bracing pattern.

Paul, I may be wrong, but at the time the Patriot was introduced (75/76) only the Custom Legend had the A brace. The Legend had the VT11, and as the Patriot is essentially a Legend with a stained top & a stencil, my guess is that it has the V brace. I have a 1980 catalog which shows all the Legend-based guitars (C-legend, Legend, Glen Campbell & Anniversary) having the A brace.

We're gonna have to let somebody who has one tell us. I've always thought the Patriot had the A bracing. Playadamas or cwk2 -- both of you should know.

Heck, ask my wife and kids. I've been wrong so much lately that I'm due to be right sometime soon. Just doesn't mean it gonna be on this.

I just took an electric reciprocating saw and hacked the bowl off of my '76 Patriot just so I could answer this question. I can tell you for sure it ain't A bracing. Due to the amount of collateral damage I can not figure out if it's VT8 or VT11.

Seriously though, I have no idea what the answer is, (and I don't owm a Patriot) but I'd tend to believe anything someone named Paul tells me (except Pope Paul). If in doubt, stick your hand inside the soundhole. Feel the braces just to the neck side and to the bridge side of the soundhole. If these braces run absolutely parallel to the bridge and are about 6 inches long, then it is A bracing. If these braces run at an angle to the bridge, then it is VT bracing. If you have a long skinny arm like a monkey you can feel into the lower bout area and figure out of it's VT-8 or VT-11.

Kind of high (buy it now) and it's $1000. Given the way the market is and how Ovation is percieved, maybe.
By all rights that guitar should be around $2500. A great sounding guitar, the first of all these collectables, truely limited production, bla, bla, bla..........

Try spending less than a grand (what's his reserve?) on a new USA-built guitar & see what you get compared to the quality of this Patriot. A few dings on a guitar approaching 30 years old are irrelevant

Keep in mind that only about 10% of the 1776’s had pickups like the one ‘Playadamas’
has posted. That puts them at a premium to many buyers.

I didn't know the Patriots w/pu were that rare. I actually have two, that's how much I like it! #1537 (AE) and #401 (A). They both sound great and look wonderful. A bit of patriotism for an immigrant I guess.
