Location: Burbank | Wow twice in one day, cool! Before I start I have to say What a cool place! I have wanted a place this forever. Being around all you ovation people is too much, I can feel the love! OK, anyway, I am about to make big life change. I have always been an electric player. 15 years ago A friend of mine turned me on to my first Ovation experience, I never forgot it. I finally got my first one 3 years ago, a 1627 Glen Campbell. I now seriously want to sell my Les Paul and get a 12 string acoustic. The delema is I want a mid-bowl legend. A 6759 is Cha-ching. A 6751 is nice and affordable but a Balladeer. I tried an 1866 sounds and feels good but its shallow! I am now having the same experience with playing with a 1777 6 string verses a 1867 6 string(mid verses shallow). If I can get enough for my Les Paul I will buy 2 guitars, which 2? This seem like a bitchen group of reasonable people with one common love. I am taking advice. Thanks in advance. |

Location: Queens, NY | The 6759 is a Custom Legend, definitely "cha-ching" territory. Unfortunately, the 12-string Legend only comes in shallow bowl, which brings us back to your other post.
So what's wrong with a 6751 12-string Balladeer? |

Location: Phoenix AZ | Oh WOW - 12 strings, my other favorite topic. Keep it coming. I have some VERY strong opinions on this one. It depends of course on what your goal or need is. Playing out live, recording, home hobby etc. If it was me (and one look at the gallery will tell you I love 12 strings), I would stay away from shallow, cutaways, and 14 fret necks. For a very reasonable price (less than $500) you can pick up a used 1115, or 1615. These are great sounding slothead 12 strings. For the money nothing can touch them acoustically, in my opinion. The necks especially are awesome. The problem is that the electronics (1615) can be a bit disappointing by todays standards (that's being kind). I would take one of these great guitars (or even better, the 1118 Glen Campbell version) and invest installing a nice new pickup system. You would then have an absolutely stunning combination of acoustic and plugged-in 12 string that had all the classic Ovation look and feel. A real winner.
As far as your 6-string dilemma, here again I would search the used market. There is nothing sacred about a NEW guitar in my opinion. Sure it's nice and shiny, but bang for the buck in guitar land is used Ovations. They are some of the most reasonably priced quality instruments out there. You can find great deals on deep bowl legends and custom legends. Again, you may want to upgrade electronics especially if you are into recording plugged-in, but with a little searching and investment you can come out like a king.
Just curious, but it would seem that your 1627 Glen Campbell should fit the bill as your 6 string. Are you wanting something deeper than the Artist bowl? Here again you can upgrade the electronics and have yourself a kick-ass acoustic electric. BTW, if you want deep bowl, I have a 1117 Legend from 1975 that I would sell. It's acoustic only, but would be a great candidate to invest in an electronics. Email me privately if you're interested. david.witko@thesundevils.com

Location: Burbank | Thanks for the opinions so far I am really enjoying the discussion. There is nothing wrong with the 6751 I really liked it, I was just thinking that whatever I get it would probably have to be it for a long time and I figured why not go a little higher and get a legend. You know though I guess if I was happy with 6751 and like the feel who care what model it is, right.
I will writing you dave privately because I am interested in the 1115. You mention my 1627. I love that guitar but the top is warping, the cracks are getting bigger and intonation is slipping. It may be time to retire, unless some has suggestion. |

Location: Lafayette, Louisiana | My 1981 Pacemaker 12 string is wonderful. It just rings and rings. I think the combination of the neck joining the body at the 12th fret, and the deep bowl body is hard to beat. It is very loud, and yes I love it!....Paul Hebert |
