Location: Lafayette, Louisiana | Hey guys, I was playing my Pacemaker 12 this afternoon and I noticed something. Seems where my arm rests on the top as I play gets kinda sticky after awhile. I don't know if I am sticky, are the top has some sort of wax that gets sticky. I can wax this off, but it will happen again if my arm rests on the top to long. What do you guys use to polish the tops of your guitars? I never had this problem with my Adamas. I guess that is becuase it has a graphite top that is not a gloss finish. Maybe the wax I used on the Pacemaker is sticky. Hell I don't know. Any advice would be appreciated....Paul Hebert | |

If you applied wax to your Pacemaker top, I suspect the stickiness is due to the heat from your arm, plus normal body oils interacting with the wax. I may be wrong here, but I'm not sure that applying wax to the top is a good idea (others please comment). The top is sealed under a poly-lacquer gloss coating. So no wax or furnature oil or anything else for that matter will actiually penetrate into the wood. The best you can do (this is what I do) is just keep the top clean from body oils and grit and just leave it alone. I wipe my top after every playing with a dry polishing cloth. Other parts of the guitar such as the fretboard and bridge are not sealed and these should be treated periodically. Satin finish guitars and necks might benefit from treatment or wax, but I would think not so for gloss finish. Just my opinion.
