Location: Burbank | I just saw a natural 1755 Custom Balladeer 12 string. It was in what I would call fair shape. The top is flat and solid, on the edge (near the binding) there is a 1" area of missing finish (bare wood). The area of the fretboard where it sits on the sound board, it has a gap about 1/16", you can see light through it. Is this normal, never seen this before. It is in a store and is on "special" at $495. Good deal? What you guys think? | |

Location: Back in the Valley of the Sun Mesa Az. | I'm no expert, but I bet you could find one in much better condition on e-bay, however, buying without playing first is a hard pill to swalllow.
The gap between the fretboard and face is not normal, I doubt it would effect playability or sound, but it might cause me to examine the entire guitar a little closer for less obvious problems due to warping or drying out (check braces inside, twist in neck type of things).
Of course, do as I say, not as I do...I've both bought a guitar on e-bay without holding/playing it first (with a good result), and have bought an old Legend that has it's share of dips and doodles, and absolutely LOVE it!
If it feels right, sounds right, and that connection is there...go for it. If you have any hesitation after playing her for a while, keep looking.
Peace,
