Hi,

I'm afraid I'm not too wise when it comes to guitar identification. I bought an Ovation Acoustic about 5 years ago, second-hand from a guitar shop, I can't remember what I paid for it, but it was a few hundred at least.

I've got absolutely no idea what model it is, and was hoping somebody might be able to tell me with a certainly degree of certainity?
The only marks of identification I can find are the serial number - 515495 - and the OP-24+ preamp. The fretboard insets are a sort of silver colour and the machine heads a sort of brass/gold finish. The body definitely isn't overly slim and it seems to have 22 frets although the top three stings go up to 23.

I've included some photographs.

Thanks in anticipation to a reply.

Looks like a mid or deep bowl celebrity deluxe to me. Dave

well, it was made in 1996 from the s/n. i don't know how fancy celebrities got back then, but maybe this is an elite since it has an op24.

there should be a model number on the tag inside.

someone else here will do a positive id by sight.

Unfortunately I can't see anything inside the guitar other than the serial number.

Appreciate all these fast responses. :)

Could be a CS247 Celebrity Deluxe ... or, if the S/N is accurate it might be a USA Elite Special (S778?). Either way, you definitely made a wise choice in a guitar.

Some others on this board could probably get you a replacement tuner ... I'm fresh out.

It would certainly be a pleasant surprise if it did turn out to be the USA Elite Special S778. Is it possible to determine it from the serial number alone? If I contacted Ovation do you think could tell me from the number?

The fingerboard inlays & neck binding confirm that this is definately a celeb & not an Elite

Hi Paul, I think you are probably right, I would be very (pleasantly!) surprised if this really was a USA elite model. Seems like the Celeb CS247 is the best bet at present.
Cheers for the reply.
