I decided to join this board after coming back from a church camp where many of the other guitarists were waxing profoundly over their Taylors. Well, I decided to renew my relationship with my 15-year old Ultra Model 1527. I wonder if someone can help me understand the serial number system. I do have a 6-digit number (170916) which according to the charts makes it a 1979 which isn't right because I bought it new in 1988. Was the fact that it was made in Korea make any difference? Thanks for all the posts--they make me feel good (again) about my Ovation! |

The problem you're going to have trying to date your guitar is that is was built overseas. None of the existing seriel number apply. They are all for the USA built Ovation. Don't despear. Somebody here will have info on your guitar. |

Play that Ovation and don't worry too much about when it was made. If it sounds good and you like it , it really doesn't matter. The problem with owning vintage guitars that you bought new is you have to age with them. You can't buy a guitar last year and hope this year it is vintage. You buy, you pick, and 40 years later your guitar and yourself are vintage, that is fine for the guitar, but you become unattractive to anybody outside of a rest home. |
