I'm curious as to your opinion on the accoustic sound quality between the quintad braced custom elite and the A-braced custom legend.

I had a 1991 collectors edition (African Mahagony) that I sold. It was an elite model and I liked the sound. I haven't played either a custom legend or elite for comparisons. I'm not a big fan of the cherry sunburst finish and I really like the black custom legend. However, accoustic sound quality means more to me so I'm still not sure. None of the stores in my local area have either in stock for me to check out.

Thanks in advance for your opinions.

Between the two, for unplugged acoustic sound in my opinion, go for a deep bowl Custom Legend. I have a non-cutaway version in black (see gallery) and the sound is just stunning. In my opinion somewhat more "open" and definately louder than similar Elites. My Custom Elite is a mid-depth so direct comparison between it and the Legend may be a little unfair. But between the two you are comparing the cream of the crop to the cream of the crop, so .... Might come down to looks and feel more than sound for some people. I doubt you would be disappointed with either one. If a gun was to my head, I'd go for the Custom Legend. Dave

The only Elite I have is the 88 Collectors with super-shallow cut-a-way.
The only Custom Legend I have is the 12 string Super-shallow cut-a-way I had built for me in 1990 (before they made Custom Legend 12's with shallow bowls and cut-a-ways)It is black by the way and absolutely beautiful!!!
I think they both sound wonderful plugged in or otherwise.
But,I do think the Custom Legend has the edge though both in looks and in sound.
I've played both styles with deep bowls and I still think the round holed guitars sound the best.
Just my opinion though.

I have played ovation guitars since the days of the shiny backs. I really like the elite sound over that of the round hole, much tighter and less boomy. It all depends on what your ears tell you. Scott

They are different sounds. If I compare my 83 Elite with my 68 Deluxe Balladeer, then they are real different. The 68 has a more open and airly sound. The Elite is deeper and more compressed.

I'm not certain that there is that much difference after the early 80's when the open hole guitars got the A bracing. The sound is much closer now. It is such a personal preference that nobody can tell you you're wrong for whatever you choose.
