Location: Wooster, Ohio | I have in the last year purchased a 1993 collectors. My previous Ovation was a 1984 collectors. My 1984 would go well over a year without replacing the battery. The 1993 seems to need a change every three months. I play regularly in a church praise band so I would think I play pluged in maybe 3-4 hours a week tops. The 1993 has a far superior plugged in sound so I am not complaining. Just curious if this is normal or if something is not right?
Thanks,

I had the same tuner installed on my Custom Adamas Mandolin; I was so distraught, I actually had the tuner replaced under warranty, and found the replacement suffered the same ailment, battery gluttony.
I've been able to extend the battery somewhat by purchasing a nice "Silent Cord" with an "on/off" feature; it can be pulled out of the instrument while the other end is plugged into the amp without the destructive "ka-CHUNCK." (Ernie Ball & Horizon makes these.)
The battery is consumed anytime it's plugged in, so in church, when I'm not playing (like in between worship sets or services) I ALWAYS unplug. It's now part of my routine.
I really like the instrument so it's worth the extra hassle, and the cost of batteries. |

Location: Wooster, Ohio | Thanks Ted. I guess I am not the only one. My 1983 collectors had the old preamp without a light to check the battery. So the other theory is that with, my older guitar, I played half a year with a dead battery and didn't notice!
I know at church that I have tended to walk away at times during our two services and left it plugged in. I think I am in the market for a switchable cord, and the start of your routine.

Location: SoCal | I change the batteries about every 3 months on the acoustics, whether they need it or not. It's cheap insurance.
On the Preacher Deluxe 12 string with active electronics, I can go about a year, but again, it's cheap insurance, so why wait that long. 5 minutes and 2 bucks for a 9 volt and it's done.
I wouldn't go with a rechargable. In my experience, they don't last that long. And Duracell batteries are cheap. Insurance. |

Location: Las Cruces, NM | Just a note on rechargeables, I've been keeping an old Tandy 102 alive for some years, and I used rechargeable Nicads for years, then I discovered rechargeable alkalines and they last for 10 times the Nicads. Thanks for the reminder, they needed charging, but it is now every few months instead of weeks. I had to set the date in the 80's as the sucker won't go beyond 2000.

Thanks

Here is one I found on Ebay. You might look for other items by the same manufacturer.
