Location: Utah | Its time to start stocking up on the Xmas gifts, and that means its time to start heading to the stores to shop for goodies.
I'm thinking in terms of some kind of pedal for my daughter to use for live performance and/or recording. She likes a clean sound, not all mucked up with distortion and phasers. I want to get something that she will enjoy and use frequently.
So, I'm thinking of something like a compressor or aural exciter. The Aphex Punch Factory compressor looks interesting because of the simplicity. Boss and DigiTech make less expensive units that have more knobs, better for me but maybe not for her. The Aphex Acoustic Xciter also looks interesting.
Either of the Aphex boxes would offer the ability to be used as a DI box. That is a feature that would certainly be useful at times.
A digital looper intrigues me, as does a simple delay pedal. I'm not sold on the idea that she would use such a thing regularly (but I may get one for myself that she could use).
Ideas, opinions? |

Location: UK | I'm looking for a new office chair.
In my office I have a guitar leaning against my desk. I grab it while I'm waiting for windows to do something, starting up/shutting down/printing etc etc or basically any other excuse (I don't need much of an excuse)
Anyway, my office chair has fixed arms which get in the way when playing so I either have to sit right on the edge of the chair or switch to one of those small armless typists chairs. In fact I usually just work in the small chair so that it's easier to play whenever I feel like it.
What I'd really like is a nice comfortable office chair with arm rests that fold right back out of the way. Doesn't sound like they should be hard to find. But I've searched and just can't find one.
Anyone know where I can get something like that ? Maybe you have one. ? |

Course if you are looking for new and pristine, this one ain't gonna cut it. |

Location: New Hampshire, USA | I picked up one of these a while age, and it's very comfortable for playing:
Adjustable seat height and footrest height. The version I got didn't have the backrest, but that's adjustable too.
Not sure how it would be as an office chair though. |

For a stocking stuffer, Beggin gave me one of these leather pick holder keychains last June and I use it all the time. She'll be driving soon, right? |

Scooterboy, give us some details on the chair. Looks like a nice jammin chair. Since no one ever comes to jam with me, I may want to carry a chair around so I'll be ready to jam with someone else at a moment's notice. |

She'll be driving soon, right? She already is. This is the girl who, at age 12, announced that she knew what kind of car she wanted to get when she could drive. A Corvette. With flames painted on the side.
Between her, her 19 yr old sister, and their mother, my old van is collecting an ever-increasing number of scars. I'm collecting an ever-increasing number of grey hairs. |

Since no one ever comes to jam with me, I may want to carry a chair around so I'll be ready to jam with someone else at a moment's notice. It's a Quik Lok chair, a company which makes many musician stands, benches, etc. Here's a link to the chair on their website:
http://www.quiklok.com/catalog/?p=productsMore&iProduct=66&sName=D-...
The seat, footrest, and backrest all slide onto the main mast and lock into notches at the desired height.
I couldn't find a chair in my house that was comfortable for playing. Everything I tried either had arms, or wasn't comfortable for long periods of time. I'm very happy with this one.
It might look tippy, but it's actually very stable. Portability-wise, once you slide the pieces off from the main mast, the rear leg folds in so it doesn't take up much room in a trunk or back seat.
The seat is quite comfortable. I could easily sit on it for a couple of hours.
Version without the seatback (model D-739) retails for around $100, the version with the seatback (model D-749) adds a little more. I found a used one on the bay for only $25 because it had a broken spot weld on the seat bracket. My neighbor had it re-welded for me at his workplace and now it's as good as new (well, used). :) |

Location: Scotland | Feedback busters or airlocks, not very exciting but very useful. Both of the Aphex pedals you mentioned are good, and of the 2 the Punch Factory is the easiest to use, doubles as a DI and sounds great. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | The local GC has their one and only VXT for a ridiculous low clearance price. I need it like a hole in the head and probably will get a hole in the head if I buy it. Black, like the lump of coal I'd get in my stocking if I bought it. Just a couple weeks ago it was dvd's redwood. Something is always coming up. |
