Location: Texas | Okay, I'll admit that I really don't dig this chick. That being said I dig my guitars.
Tonight I was watching late night TV. On the Conan O'Brien or was it Craig Kilborn show in all her glory was Melissa strumming a beautiful "Taylor" guitar. What a great spokesperson for our brand.<
Am I missing something here? I have always thought when someone endorses a product they actually use it....at least publicly.
I for one would not play an ME guitar if it was given to me.
I'm for ditching the ME model and spreading the cash around to smaller Americana style artists who can be true to one label.
I can give you a dozen Texas artists who would love to promote the Ovation brand sincerely.
Just my thoughts. |

I'm with you, artists that get the support and publicity of a manufacturer and then publicly play a rival's product are relegated to the lower circles of Dante's hell. F--- you, you ingrate, ate from my table and sh-- in your chair. Who the F--- is Melissa Etheridge now? |

| This thread reminds me of the old Saturday Night Live skit with Rosanna Rosannadana when she has a rant about something and then had to end with the words “never mind”.
Know one played the guitar on Conan tonight.
It was Suzanne Vega playing a Taylor on the Craig Kilborn show tonight not Melissa Etheridge.

She's been a loyal Ovation fan long before ever being endorsed.
Being a long time fan of hers, and a HUGE Ovation fan, frankly I wouldn't give a shit if she played something else from time to time. (Even if it was her on the show, you don't know if she was scheduled to just interview, and then handed a guitar to play). She does her share of promoting Ovation, and I've never, ever seen her use any other acoustic. I would be really disappointed if she switched brands, but I couldn't see that happening, the Ovation sound is such a part of her style.
There are lots of artists who use "rival" guitar brands. Ritchie Sambora, who has several endorsed strat models bearing his name, is touring with Gibson Flying V's. Who gives a F**K? (not that I would put him anywhere in the ranks of Lukather, but he is more publicly known) Different guitars for different sounds.

...and I would be happier than a pig in shit! Who would turn down a $1700 Adamas 12 string?
It might be time to chill the F**k out if you're going to get your skirt in a ruffle because an artist uses a different guitar. Somehow you might be missing the point...music.

Location: Phoenix AZ | Sounds like Shaft got the Shaft. Hey, we've all made mistakes. I spent 20 minutes once screaming at the manager of Home Depot over some way overpriced power tool that he sold me and it didn't work worth a damn. How dare he refuse to not stand behind his product and not refund my money. Once I calmed down he politely showed me the receipt that said I had bought it at Lowe's Homecenter, across the street. Oooops.

P.S. From 50 feet away it's a lot easier to tell Suzanne Vega from Melissa Ethridge than it is to tell a Celebrity Deluxe from an Elite. Melissa is the one with the bigger ..... aw, never mind. |

Location: Canton (Detroit), MI | Don't know if any of you saw the article on Lucinda Williams in this month's Acoustic Guitar magazine....she does a similar thing to what was mentioned here....she endorses Martin guitars, but uses a Gibson J-45 onstage. But she is going to use the signature model Martin is making for her as soon as it's done.....(must be nice).... |
