Location: San Francisco, CA | Guys, be careful & don't be greedy. There are many scam artists. Europe is out of our jurisdiction.
The seller told me the Adamas & original hard case weigh only 7kg (~ 15 lbs). We all know it's impossible. He just said he sold it to his friend locally. |

Location: Scotland | I ship instruments to and from the USA and around the world constantly. An average acoustic guitar & molded case weighs in at 6-8 kilos. He was about right on the weight of a deepbowl Ovation & case. Traditional wooden hardshell case are generally a kilo or two heavier than molded cases. Correctly packed in a sturdy shipping carton will add another 2-3 kilos. He was off on total shipping weight, which is what determines the cost for airfrieght, but I'm not sure that makes him a "scam artist" If you paid the shipping price he quoted & it was short he'd should pick up the difference, as a seller I would, and have done, if I'd screwed up on the shipping quote.
Shipping American guitars from Europe to the US rarely works, unless it's an exceptional instrument or a really cheap deal, as they're always cheaper on your side of the pond. Also freight charges from Europe to the US are higher than in the other direction. We live in a global economy, and if you are sensible, very few places are "out of jurisdiction" |

Do you have any vintage Adamas or Ovation? Weigh them.
Even a modern Adamas 1597 + hard case weigh more than 15 lbs. Try it if you don't believe. |

Location: Scotland | One of us must have faulty scales. Amongst many other Ovations I have a '78 Adamas in an original brown case & a recent 1597 SMT & case. The SMT is a little heavier at around 8 kilos, the '78 around 7.5 kilos, and that's probably down to the difference in cases. I've received & shipped countless Ovations so I'm very aware of shipping weight/costs. I've just shipped a Patrick Eggle electric and a Lowden acoustic to the US. Taken from the waybills the Eggle in a molded came came in at 9.5 kilos & the Lowden in a ply hardshell 14.5 kilos, both well packed. |

SMT + hard case = 8kg or 17.6 lbs ?
I bought a lot of Adamas/Ovation. None weigh less than 25 lbs, no little packing material. |

Location: Scotland | Is there a difference between US & UK pounds? Either way kilos should be universal (OK, maybe not outside of Federation space, but you know what I mean)
Maybe you should take a look here
http://www.dhl-usa.com/lbs-2-kilo
This is fucking ridiculous. An average acoustic guitar, regardless of brand, in a molded case weighs 6-8 of your earthling Kilos, pretty much end of story. Trad ply hardshells can take the net weight up to around 10 kilos. I do this for some of what I laughingly refer to as a living, so I kinda know. |

Maybe I am getting old & have bad memory. I think all of my Ovation/Adamas weigh 26-32 lbs.
Adamas/Ovation, especially the old ones like 1537, weigh a ton. My Taylor's weigh much less (not including the deluxe case)& feel like toys.
It's almost like Rolex vs Casio in terms of weight. |

The average Gibson Les Paul weighs less than 10 pounds. Maybe Ovation should cash in and produce an "Incredible Hulk" signature model

I think you mean "sound like toys"
Sorry, maybe I've just watched too many Marx Brothers movies, but I just could not resist a feed-line as good as that.
Actually, I'm not sorry at all. |

I can't speak for other Taylor's, but mine certainly don't sound like toys :-) They feel like feather, however. |

Did anyone notice the guy has been an ebayer since '99 and only positive feedback? From different persons.
I know this can be faked, but it seems a lot of trouble to go through.
Has anyone ever had bad experiences with people with only positive feedback on Ebay? I'm curious.

Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | I have been buying and selling on eBay since 1998. I have had a few tense moments, but not real bad experiences. In general it's easier to be honest and successful on ebay than to be dishonest. There are some questionable sales practices, but there are everywhere. Bottom line, read EVERYTHING and ask questions, you'll be relatively safe. |

That is especially true when the Grim Reaper is looking through your window wondering when you are going to quit playing those damn guitars and mandolins and just go quietly into the warm night. |

I'm 48 and figure that I'm a third of the way thru my life. Regardless of where I am in life, I'm not gonna stop buying green bananas or Elixir strings. It's an admission of giving up.
And I'll be damned if I'm going to go quietly. Someday the grim reaper may take me, but he's gonna have bruises and broken bones to show for it! |

Location: UK | I bought my Adamas SMT roundhole from the US to the UK (possibly from the same Paul?) through Ebay it's georgeous and shipping was low cost - getting it from the States was significanly lower cost than buying in the UK, so I'm sure that is a one-way saving. |

You are right, and I am kicking the reaper's ass every time I get on this board and make an absolute fool out of myself. People on the verge of going into the warm night usually use rather vague and non controversial terms like IMHO and please forgive me for thinking. Well, don't forgive me and my opinion isn't humble. Take that, mister reaper.
Viperman
Viper owners are the cream of the earth (except for those that put short necks and foreign pickups on them and call them "deluxe". Mine is pristine, even VIRGINAL, to coin a term. The only hope for those that have defiled a Viper is to pray to their lord for forgiveness (lord Alpep), and ship their guitar to an address that I will give them through my email address, relieving them of the guilt.

LOL - I hope you don't include a pair of Seymour Duncans as defiling . . .
When you don't have enough room for all the ones you have been sent I'll give you an address to ship the overage to!!
They are the best, I looked at others but other than my Fenders it was always the Viper that I wanted. I've had about half a dozen Ovation roundbacks but this Viper was the first Ovation solidbody. Guess what - I'm looking for another model. How is it they can go for such little money? Less than a shoddy MiM Fender!!! |
