Location: Bethel, Me | Went and saw Kaki at the Northstar Bar in Phili on 5 Aug. She didn't play her Adamas at all. She mentioned the guitar mag articles about her playing an Adamas and how great they were, then stated that was all a lie and that "they sucked". She said something about calling the factory and making them better. Hope she and Ovation can work things out, but was quite shocked to hear her bash them in public. She has talent and plays well, but her ramblings detracted from her performance. |

Location: Scotland | Are you sure you didn't go to see a gig by Paul Hebert? I'm probably way wrong but the whinging that the only good Ovations are the old ones make me suspect it may have been PH in drag. You never know with those haemaphrodites from Louisiana.
Either way a minor act with support from a major guitar manufacturer should discuss their misgivings with artist relations, not air their dirty laundry in public. End of story. |

If you were being sarcastic, please set us straight. If not, and that's how it really was please re-itereate. I know the Artist relations folks at Ovation read this board and wouldn't want them to go after someone because we were just having some almost obvious fun. |

Location: atlanta | Completely out of character. She raves about Adamas in both current AG and Frets (says she couldn't have developed her technique without it).
Possible explanations. The guitar Al refers to is the latest of three, and she did tell me she was having problems with set-up and electronics, but was going to gig it anyway. Sound check may have been frustrating, so borrowed something.
Pete, did she play an electric Gretsch Roundup? She's been experimenting with using it on stage, and maybe felt the Charlie Hunter crowd was the right one to stretch it out with.
I know my daughter. Sometimes her sense of humor has an odd, angular quality, and can sometimes seem off-base, but she's more likely to be trying to be ironic than anything else. Hopefully that's what this is, but I will do my best to find out.

Location: Bethel, Me | Sorry to say it's sad but true. She played the Gretsch, which she wasn't too happy with either, and an acoustic I couldn't make out the brand. I'm sorry to report that she bashed the Ovation/Adamas name pretty good then stated that because she wasn't playing the Adamas she couldn't do some of the fun stuff on the guitar she usually does. Maybe it was all in jest and just frustration if she's been having trouble with it. But the audience isn't privy to that info so it looked bad. As an OFC member I'd heard nothing but good things so I was discouraged to hear her comments about her Adamas. |

The Gretsch imports are consistent but barely a substitute for an Adamas.
My guess is because her technique requires 2 hand tapping etc that she may have found the pickup microphonic and could not EQ it correctly without it feeding back.
Absolutely not cool to publicly bash the company. |

Location: Las Cruces, NM | I would suggest that if she is having problems setting up that she get on line and tell us what they are. There is a good chance someone here amongst our 1600 members could help solve the problems. I also realize that sometimes the problems surface just before show time and can be annoying as hell but not solvable, so a compromise is needed. Best to go on and adjust but not relate the problems to the audience. They usually will be satisfied if you do your best.
Also, if there are continuing problems with the Ovation, then definately let us know and try to help.

Paul D.Hebert . . . "
That was my "inspiration", and I just ran with it.
If Paul (or anyone else) was offended, I apologize as it was all meant in "fun".
(I'd post the pics of Templeman and the vicar, but that'd REALLY be in bad taste!)

Miles, I'd say it was totally unnecessary. Damn funny though.
Cliff, it wasn't a Vicar, he was definately a Priest. |

Knowing that you got a laugh out of it (the way a lot of us did) made it worth getting called on the carpet over it. Like I said, it was all in fun.

When I was a freshman in college I was a political science major. I had a professor that was from North Carolina. For the first month of classes I could not understand ONE WORD HE SAID!!!! I sat there and copied the notes of my friend next to me and kept saying "Huh? Wha? Did you get that?" I really could not understand him his accent was so thick.
After four years of working with the man and being one of his star pupils I could understand the thickest of southern accents. In fact if I spent too much time with Dr. Harrison I would start talking in a drawl myself.
BUT I NEVER EVER SAID "dang" |

Location: NJ | If any fellow "NorthJerseyans" are interested, Kaki's playing tomorrow (Sat.) at the Waterloo Village concert field in Allamuchy, NJ.
Also on the bill are: Disco Biscuits, Flaming Lips, Medeski Martin & Wood, and String Cheese Incident.
As much as I'd like to finally get to see her (and it's really "local" for me), I can't see forking over $50/ticket to stand in an outdoor field (general admission) while the weather forecast calls for yet ANOTHER soggy (like the past 8!) day.
Personally, I'll wait for a quiet NYC club with a comfy chair under me and a $10 drinkie-poo in front of me. |

Location: Lake Hiawatha, New Jersey | Thanks for the tip. A friend of mine told me about that show months ago, but I declined. As much as I'd like to see her, I thought that catching her in the city another time would include a longer set in a more intimate venue, and possibly a cheap bite and a drink for that same $50. She's the kind of player I would appreciate experience close up.

Location: Bethel, Me | Kaki's playing two more shows at the Northstar Bar in Phili on the 12th & 19th. Hopefully with her Adamas, but a good show without, none the less. Very, very upclose and personal. You could stand 2ft from the stage if you'd like. Come as you are type joint, with $10 cover, reasonable drink prices and selection, and no-smoking. |
