I saw in the most recent Musicians Friend catalog, an acoustic guitar with an extremely "ovation style" top. What looked like the leaf pattern soundholes, instead of a center hole design, was described in the blurb as "parrots". Once I looked closer, sure enough it was parrots, but much too close to Ovation's leaf design.
I tossed the catalog already, and don't recall the brand name of the guitar, but remember it was a guy's name that I didn't recognize. If I recall correctly, the guitar was in the $500 price range.
Can they (he) really get away with that? I would think that Ovation could nail his ass to the wall for that kind of infringement. I would think as a small scale production they wouldn't bother suing him, but Musician's Friend is a big dealer, and their advertisement goes to a lot of potential Celebrity buyers.

That be the famous Pirate version, me hearty. There be many trying to copy the same cut o' the jib as Ovation.
