Hey Paul T, groovedude, and youse guys 'cross the pond'; do you have to send international money orders directly to a bank account? I have a gentleman in the Netherlands saying he has to have my bank account number to send his payment to. He doesn't want to use PayPal, either. Is this some kind of scam?

It may be that he needs it, but I would never in a million years give out my bank account number. They must have a money order like in the US, this doesn't seem right. If I'm wrong, well, ok ... but you can be really hurt if you give that info to the wrong person, think about it.

Thanks, I sent an email suggesting Western Union, certified cashier's check, and directing him to his bank for assistance. I do not intend to send my bank account number over the internet. Thanks for the "reality check"!!

he probably wants to do a wire transfer to your account.

WIRE TRANSFERS ARE SAFE. They are done in Europe and Asia all the time with no issue. The problem is that you will be charged for a wire transfer and maker sure the sender is willing to pay your fee also. It is usually $20.

another slick trick a few years back was canadians sending money orders in Canadian dollars for payment in the US. always make sure the amount is made out in US.

If a scam has been tried, it has been tried on me.

Jeez, 300 entries...and counting. I guess "endless windbag" isn't far off the mark! Perhaps, "inquisitve and esoteric" would be exceptionally euphemistic. Sorry, dictionary breath again....

I don't know about international money orders, but in the Netherlands we need a bank account number for every transaction (especially if you want to do things fast). Money is transferred from one bankaccount to the other by the bank. It used to be different (everything went through the bank's account and was deposited on the clients account afterwards), but now it works like this.

I always use paypal and/or credit cards however.

I had some discussions with Alpep about international money orders/creditcards etc. lately and i consider him to be quite knowledgable on the subject.

Sorry i can't tell you anymore, but it seems you've figured it out.

Oh and it's De (not der) Nederlander, we're not Germany, thank you. ;)

Martin, my apologies for the linguistic gaffe- I stand corrected. It was quite an educational experience, accomplishing the funds transfer, with the flurry of emails traversing the globe. Apparently, the banking systems and PayPal policies differ significantly, by country of origin. Still, the marvels of electronic technology made this task happen in about an hour, whereas, even 10 years ago, it might have taken a few weeks. The issuance of a paper document through Western Union, however, returns the process to ground and air transport. Oh well, can't win 'em all, at once.

Hey guys, apologies if this is late, I'm in Nashville right now & have only sporadic access to a computer. I use IMO's regularly. Money Orders need only a name & address. Wire Transfers require account number & sort code. There's is no risk in giving a third party your bank account number & sort code, unless you believe your bank's security protocols are compromised, in which case any problems are their fault. You need to be careful on wire transfer as to where the currency conversion takes place as this can affect exchange rate, & fees on wire transfer are usually pretty high for both parties compared to other methods. Western Union is OK & I've had no problems ever with Bidpay money orders.

On a completely different subject, I just bought the new Warren Zevon & Rodney Crowell albums and both are highhly recommended, I struggled to hold back the tears listening to Warrens album.

Well, Guys, back to Square One. Western Union refused the transaction, for some reason. I have contacted the seller, and am awaiting a reply. TARNATION!! It's no wonder a lot of folks aren't willing to do international sales.

Thanks for the offer, Martin! I will let you know if the buyer wishes a consultation. I wouldn't want to forward his personal information, unsolicited.

Had to flush the deal (DRAT!!). The financial thing was just not going to happen. I had to agree with the gentleman; this was too long, and too hard. Relisted the CS-255 on EBAY, for a second try; gotta generate revenue for the 1127 project.

Hey, Martin-
Thanks for the condolence. Actually, I have even reduced the price even further this time. If someone is interested in a good 12-string with a bit of repair, this one would be hard to pass up.

The other offerring ain't bad, either:

Yeah, yeah. I know, its not on the right board. I'm feelin' kinda lazy today, and this follows the thread more cogently (never too tired for superflous vernacular, of course)

spellcheck failure- it's "superfluous". Terminal Self-aggrandisement Syndrome, to be sure.
