Hello--

I have a question. I am in possession of an Ovation solid body electric guitar, 24 fret, nice inlay on the fretboard; two pickups (with polarity switches on each one). Its most unusual feature is a "mono" and "stereo" input jack. Serial number E 12561, purchased probably in early 80s.

It's a very sweet guitar with great action and incredible sustain. My question is: what is it called?

That switch setup was used on the UK II and the Preacher Deluxe. If it looks like an SG it's a Preacher, if it looks like an LP then it's a UK II. Also the switches change the coils from series to parrellel.

BruDev--

You rock! Thanks. Tell me, do you mean UK II as in "made in the UK"?

Well, that pretty much wraps up this thread. I went to the Ovation website and looked up the UK II under discontinued models. That's it!

It is generally considered to be a very good guitar, maybe not as famous as it should be. I'm a Viper owner and I follow the solid body ratings closely, welcome to the board.

Bailey--

Thanks! I have been playing for 30 years +, and have had an old Telecaster for years--so my standards are high! This UK II really does have an amazing amount of sustain.

The UKII is probably one of the least understood guitars they have. The only wood is on the neck, and a lot of the sustain is due to bridge and neck both being bolted directly to the aluminum core.

I have a writeup at http://www.baronaudio.com/collection

Mr. Ovation--

Believe it or not, I just came from your site and read your report! That's fascinating. I read Mr Kaman's evaluation that the guitars lacked "it"--I think you're right in that the ads could have done a better job explaining just what the guitar had to offer...

Well

I just read the report also, and I think Ovation has many underrated guitars out there, and we should scarf them up as we are the only people who know about them. The bright side is, we can afford them!!!

Buy, Buy, Buy
