Location: Las Cruces, NM | Just saw an announcement of a Simon and Garfunkle reunion of some sort and Paul Simon was playing some POS wooden gitter with a rosette around the soundhole to look a little like an Ovation, hoping, I suppose, to remind potentional fans of the very successful Central Park concert. BUT IT WASN"T AN OVATION. Fie on any reunion concert that does not conform to history.

Location: Germantown, MD | I saw Simon a couple of years ago at Nissan Pavilion when he had Brian Wilson as an opening act. Can't remember the makes of guitars he used. Unfortunately, he had "updated" a lot of his best songs and totally screwed them up. One can only hope Garfunkel will be a stablizing influence.
Peace,
John |

Location: Burbank | That's right Al, I tried one of those Martin Paul Simon models once. It wasn't anything to scream about, certainly not worth the $2500 they are asking for it (my opinion anyway). Yes, I would still prefer my Glen Campbell model anyday! |

The last time that happened was the result of the "Ovation Guy" being at the right place at the right time with right guitar.
Like everything else in nature:
it's all "Timing and Lubrication". |

Let's see what comes out of this announcement. Maybe we will see a vintage Ovation, maybe not. Can I set up book on this and take bets? Would somebody compute the odds please (20 to 1?).

we can always hope. |

We love Simon and Garfunkle, but we want them to conform to our memory. I just left garagebandgaragebandand am going to post a thread shortly supporting this type of music. I heard a band on there that was Simon and G only better. Can't tell you their name but they are great. Let's hope S&G do something great.

I predict that S&G will flop without the Legend. |

Location: NJ | S & G will not fail, they are older and have not toured for many years, people who grew up in the 60's listening to thier music will pay 1K a ticket to see they because they will figure they will never again get the opportunity.
People under 35 could care less about them and are not even familiar with their classic music. The baby boomer/vietman era people who now have big bucks will fork it out to see them.
I love their music and think that this is probably a well overdue tour but really their music has little relavance now, is not played on the radio except for easy listening stations and would never be played on mtv or vh1.
I would much rather see the current sex pistols tour. At least Lydon is entertaining and still relatively true to his punk past |

Location: Scotland | Al, I saw the Pistols last Sunday in San Diego & believe me Lydon is true to nothing except his ego & a fast buck. It was embarassing & unintentionally hilarious. I couldn't believe the amount of kids buying into it. Years ago after their first USA gig, Lydon said to the audience something like "ever get the feeling you've been had?" Nothing has changed. |

Are we to believe that some people who have achieved FAME, would somehow try to exploit it and lose the innocense that they proclaimed as they were rising through the ranks. Oh, the shock of it all!!! (That damn !!! is hard to find on my keyboard, is that a plot to keep us from commenting on the ones who have slipped into commercialism?)

Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | I have mixed emotions about the "re-union" things. I think some artists should just retire gracefully. Paul McCartney is having fun.. that's cool. Simon and Garfarful... not sure I care anymore, I'd rather see either one of them solo, doing NEW songs. I like BOC because most of their set (unless it's a short show) is new material, but they have to play "the big three", on the otherhand, Mr. Tyler should work on his dart game and leave the rocking to a chair, same with KISS. I like what Rod Stewart is doing, and even Brian Setzer has managed to put a new twist on things for himself. The Stones are an enigma, so they don't count in this. I find it hard to believe that Paul SImon needs the money, nor that he has any desire to sing Bridge Over Troubled Water yet another time.
Damn I'm cynical lately. |

Location: 6 String Ranch | That's usually why these things happen, for the $$$$$$$$$$. I tend to agree with Miles, if they ain't doing anything that's happening today, stay home. Then again, I never listen to the "oldies" stations that seem to be popping up with some regularity now. Going and doing a show of all the old hits for the people who listen to them all day long at work, well I guess that works. You won't catch me there but I'm not going to throw stones either. |

Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | If Art G. needs the money, than he should do like everyone else does when their current career isn't bringing home the bacon. They find another career. This may not be Art's case, but it's a good segway within this topic to another aspect of the "has beens" and "once was" of the music industry. I have a hard time feeling sorry for "out of work" musicians and other artists, especially ones that were successful at one point. Most of them have talent, and good get any number of jobs, they just choose not to. This is not everyone, but a lot. Although I don't have any music examples, other than folks like Moby who runs a tea shop in NY (and by the way, you won't ever hear a Moby tune on the juke box there) but an example from several years back where the news interviewed homeless Lawyers in I believe DC. Ok, your a Lawyer, with at least one degree, you've passed the bar, but working at McDonalds is beneath you, you'd rather live on the street and in shelters. That's a bit extreme, but I would think a John Fogerty resturant would be much more rewarding than an embarrasing tour of livestock fairs and BBQ rib cookoffs.
On the otherhand, BBQ Rib cookoff's are some of the gig's that Eric Bloom of BOC most looks forward too. Play Rock'N Roll and he gets to eat ribs all day for free. Hmmmm maybe he's onto something. |
