Ovation 1537 electronics problem

I decided to try and plug my 1537 directly into the unit for recording. The problem is, I'm getting a horrible hummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. If I touch the guitar cord jack, the hum goes away. What can I do about it? If it's still there it could be a fault with the guitar electronics moody, p.i. Your hum may have nothing to do with the equipment you are using.
