This sounds so bad . . .

My 1970 Viper solidbody arrived about 3 months ago with a completely new setup and thus new strings.

I broke a string today and restrung the whole guitar with Fender Bullet 9's (the only set I had handy!). They sound horrible and the low E and A seem to be too big for the nut. I've been getting Elixirs recently for my Adamas, has anyone any experience of these on a Viper, plus what is the usual gauge for one?

I like stainless but there's also nickle which I think is a little rougher on the fingers. D'Addario is always good. Markley, Ernie Ball there's a bunch.
Actually I use the 11-52 set, they seem closer to my acoustic guitar feel than the 10's which seem to get pushed around and sound out of tune.

I put Elixirs on my Viper Deluxe and THead, and have been happy with them
