Location: Cicero, NY | I'm heading down to Manhattan in a couple of weeks with SWMBO and I'm going to have two days all by my lonesome to check out some git shops. As I don't do the "Big City" very often, I wondered if anyone wanted to throw out any suggestions on some nice shops in that neighborhood. Higher end shops would be cool as I don't get to check out the upper echelon very often and would love to spend a little time with a Collings, McPherson, et al. but I'll take any and all suggestions. |

Location: Capital District, NY, USA Minor Outlying Islands | You must make an appointment to visit David Cage's bass shop on walker street. When you see the basses, ask to play the oldest they have. You can do dim sum in china town before Cages, and afterwards cab it up to Umanov's. Though the most unique thing about that place are the prices, on the other hand they do have some classics.
I'll think of somemore interesting ones ...
If you do a search you'll find some recommendations we've made before. There some interesting shops in Brooklyn, and Staten Island too.
By the way, what big city is cicero near? |

Location: Cicero, NY | Great stuff, guys. Keep it coming. And I'm 10 minutes out of Hooterville (Syracuse), which is a great little college town but, when you talk top shelf guitars, they go directly to $1,500 Taylors and Martins. Anything higher than that and you drive off the edge of the Earth. Santa Cruz is just a guy who comes once a year to good little kids in Mexico to people here... |

Carmine Street Guitar's, around the corner from Umanov's (Repairs on electrics just as good as Umanov's, and cheaper. The guy makes his own teles, no ovations)
East Village Music Store on E 3rd Street (Consignment store, maybe an ovation, pretty cool)
Guitar Bar on first street in Hoboken (take the ferry or path train) |

He makes his own teles. He won't have a huge selection, probably only 3 ready for you to try. But they are sweet. Don't expect a huge to be overawed with the selection, cause it won't happen. |

Location: Capital District, NY, USA Minor Outlying Islands | But I guess the highest end stuff would be Umanov's and Cage's. With interesting stuff as per, Matt's suggestion. Remember, at Cage's you have to make an appointment. Also, Mando Bros in SI might be worth a trip for you. Depends on the time.
Cage's is only basses, but so cool. |

With all due respect to Matt, I've eaten many a time at DiFaro's. Along with Lombardi's, John's, etc. They're all great. But if you want the best pizza and a really cool walk, just take the subway to Park Row and walk across the Brooklyn Bridge (the sights are amazing). Down the steps and hang right, and right again. Just about under the bridge is GRAMALDI's. The lines will sometimes be over an hour, but it is defacto the best pizza you will ever have. Come on Matt, am I wrong ???

Location: Capital District, NY, USA Minor Outlying Islands | Depends on the nights .... Check out the websites for the Rodeo Bar in manhattan and Hank's Saloon in Brooklyn. Both are easy to get to. In fact, hank's, which is a dive, may be easier to get to, even though it's not in manhattan. Those are my favorites ... |

Mandolin Brothers - though you may need to ride the ferry to Staten Island to get there - is definitely worth the trip. That's where I acquired my HD-28, and it's a sale I never regretted. |
