Location: the BIG Metropolis of TR | Hey guys doesn't this guitar have the wrong type bridge? A '67 Deluxe should have a 5 point bridge right?

Location: SoCal | I don't know if this particular guitar was discussed, but you are right that a Deluxe Balladeer should have a 5 point rosewood bridge.
But a number don't (including my 68). The reason is that somewhere along the line, the guitar probably went to Ovation for a repair (probably a crack in the face, and the bridge might have been replaced with what became a standard walnut bridge. These came into use in the early 19790's.
I also have 1969 Glen Campbell 12 string that should have a rosewood bridge of the time, but instead has a more modern bridge. It's not unusual. |

Location: the BIG Metropolis of TR | Thanks Paul! - When you sent your GC 12 string to the factory could you have gotten a correct 5 point rosewood bridge installed if you wanted or are they no longer available? What style bridge was on it before you sent it to the factory?

Location: Phoenix AZ | The factory can build a 5 point walnut one for you. Look at the photo in the gallery of two of my Josh White's. One has a 5 point rosewood and the other has a 5 point walnut. Can you tell the difference? Dave |

Location: 6 String Ranch | The 5 point bridge was for the 6 strings not the 12. Also I seem to recall they were all rosewood. When we moved to the intermediate shape and they switched to walnut. (This sound right to you guys?) |

| All of the original Ovation bridges, six string, twelve string and classical, were made of Brazilian rosewood until 1969, when the CITES treaty made it difficult, but not impossible, to import Brazilian rosewood.
The bridges changed to walnut sometime during 1969, and at that time the first generation six- string bridges changed from a 5-point shape to asecond generation, modified winged variety, not unlike the shape of the 12-string bridges. This second generation only lasted a short time until the wings were removed and a walnut bridge similiar to the current style bridge was introduced.
There do appear to be some 12-string guitars from the early 1970's that have the Brazilian rosewood bridge, but this would be unused stock from the 1960's. |

Location: SoCal | That last comment regarding some 12 strings in the early 70's with old rosewood bridges makes sense. I just saw, belonging to another member, a Glen Campbell 12 string, newer than mine, but with the older style bridge. |
