Location: Scotland | It's a Smith Melobar "stand-up" steel guitar. I've owned a couple of single-neck Melobars, a 6 & a 10 string, but this is the first double neck I've seen. this is obviously influenced by Junior Brown's custom made Fender-style "Guit-steel" guitars. The concept of the Melobar was that they were essentially a lap steel with a guitar body & an angled neck so they could be played standing up. David Lindley played one for a while. Frankly you can find a $100 Supro or Magnatone Lap steel on ebay which will sound better than the Melobars, but they're difficult to play standing up! |

Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | I saw someone in Nashville playing something like this that I thought was a fender. May have been Junior Brown??? but I don't really remember the name... but I DO remember what the instrument looked like, and it sounded great. |

Location: Scotland | Junior Brown's guitars were designed by himself & made by a guy called Michael Stevens, who I think was involved with the the Fender custom shop. He has 2 which are basically a Fender-style 6-string lap-steel with a Telecaster grafted on. Brown switched between regular guitar & lap steel so he designed the "guit-steel" so he could play both styles on one instrument while standing up. The Melobars are different in that the fingerboards are angled so they are played kinda like a dobro, Brown's guitars are flat.

Location: UK | I saw Junior Brown at the Festival Hall in London (along with Guy Clark) about 8 years ago. I still pine after the opportunity of seeing him again but I guess I'll have to go stateside for that. A great guitarist and a great act. Got all his CDs. Of course, absolutely no connection to Ovation whatsoever! |

Location: Las Cruces, NM | Jr Brown is the greatest, I have him on a Austin City Limits video with Ray Price where he does Ray Price almost as good as Ray Price, and Ray loves it. He played a nylon string guitar on this one, as it was a vocal performance.
