Location: south east Michigan | I am looking for CDs that feature good guitar work. Something like Classical Gas, Anji, or Stephen Still's playing on Treetop Flyer. Any suggestions? Thanks |

Location: NJ | The Narada label put out a good series of CD's entitled "Fingerstyle Guitar" (the first one has kick-ass rendition of the Allman's "Little Martha"). Windham Hill Records also put out the "Wood & Steel" series of guitar CD's (although those are co-produced by Taylor). |

Location: Indiana | Ditto on Cliff's post! Tim Farrell's rendition of Little Martha on the Narada cd does kick ass  Don Ross's "The First Ride" on that cd always picks me up when I need a boost. That cd is one that seldom left my cd changer until I burnt a copy of it and added a few more tracks from Windham Hill's Sanctuary cd (Michael Hedges "Aerial Boundries" and Alex de Grassi's "Children's Place" ) and Pierre Bensusan's "Pres de Paris".
There is a ton of good stuff out there. Sometimes I just pick something new and go for it. I had never heard of Rory Block and saw a cd one day that said "buy me" and I did. After I listened to it I thought "WOW! that gal can play!" This may sound strange but I did not know why I was attracted to the cd until AFTER I listened to it. Maybe I picked up a good vibe or maybe it was dumb luck but I loved the cd. I just ordered Kaki's cd, and one of Pat Metheny's and Al DiMeola's because I know they are all good but I have none of their music. I love hearing new sounds...even if they are old songs. I think John Mellencamp and his guitarist Andy York did a great job of this on his "Trouble No More" cd. How many contemporary, so called "top 40" artists are doing renditions of songs from Robert Johnson, Son House and Woodie Guthrie? I have a lot of respect for my fellow Indiana native both as a musician and a man of courage who speaks from his heart.
