The wood top is coated with some shiny, glue-like material UNDERNEATH/INSIDE. What is it? Which other models have this kind of coating?

Are you referring to the fingerboard? The original Elites had the same Walnut fingerboards as the Adamas. The Walnut was impregnated with a resin to improve it's properties as a fingerboard material.

The wood top INSIDE. If you open up your Ovation or Adamas, you can see what's inside. Normally, it's just plain, unfinished wood, but it's not in this Elite.

I suspect Ovation did some exeriment on this 1st generation Elite. 1537 sounds & looks (inside & outside) fantastic.

Good one Cliff! My family thinks I'm nuts sitting down here alone laughing out loud.
