Location: Phoenix AZ | I think from the mid 70's (until the mid 90's?) brown bowls went on guitars with natural tops and gold hardware. So it really wasn't divided by model.
For example, a natural Legend w/gold HW would get a brown bowl but a black Legend w/gold HW would get a black bowl. Same for Custom Legends, 12 Strings, etc.
I think I've got that right ... Dave |

Location: SoCal | My dark sunburst #1659 Custom Legend 12-str has the brown bowl (gold tuners) - ser no is 321818 which shows 1985-1986, based on ser no.
All the previous Custom Legends that I either have, had, or seen (1978-1985) had the gold tuners and brown bowl - whatever finish on the top.
I believe it depends on year, model, and finish. |

Location: SoCal | As to a black top...Dave, you are probably right as I was just thinking of dark sunburst and natural. I have a black 6759 w/black bowl but that's a newer one so doesn't count. For Custom Legends - as far as I know the 1119,1158, 1619, 1658/1659 were only available as natural & sunburst. I believe the 1719 (about 1986) was first available with black top. |

Location: SoCal | Corrected again...should remember that, heck I'm the one that posted the article and pictures from Forbes on the auction. Ovation web site shows #1619 as natural and sunburst only but we know that there are errors. |

This looks like a very nice Elite 1768. I love the sunburst. I see Roundback likes this one too. His name is usually on the bid list of the more interesting ovations that pop up on ebay.
