COuld be lots of things. I assume it's a powered monitor, what brand/model? If it is a self-contained unit, does it make the noise with nothing plugged into it? |

"never mind"
Do what Al said. Sounds like the tranformer is going. Give it a good swat on the sides and top to shake any dust loose, or close a loose connection, that may also be it. It it's more than 3 years old, just buy a new one. They are not worth repairing. |

Mitsubishi is now made by NEC or they are the same company or whatever. I have always had great luck with NEC monitors.
My current mitsubishi is 18.1 and was only 499 with rebate or 450 I forget.
that was 6 months ago so they are probably giving them away free with a happy meal now

Sorry, I couldn't resist. |

Location: San Bernardino, California | The whine is usually caused by the laminations in the high voltage transformer getting loose and vibrating; usually caused by heat. About the only cure is to replace the transformer, unfortunately if you include the trouble of carting/shipping it to the service center it's usually not worth it. |

Location: Waterloo, IL | Just take the easy way out. I bought a used 19 inch Dell monitor at a local computer show for $110 plus tax. Works great, only two inches deeper than the 17 inch it replaced which was the same depth as the previous 15 inch. They are sold locally. I can get you their address if you would like it. |

Location: Madison, Wisconsin | I guess I'm just being cheap but I really didn't want to spend money on anything but an Ovation. I was hoping someone would say something like "It's just a transformer that you can pick up at Raido Shack and instll it your self." I think I'll keep my eye out for a new one. Thanks for all the input. |

That usually works as a temporary KwikPhix and will buy you some time. |
