Did anyone watch this show the past couple of nights? Yes I have. These bims really put the bim in bimbo. Dumb as dirt and who cares??????

I have no clue why I am attracted to these shows sorta like an accident on the highway you just gotta slow down look out the window and stare.

Does anyone believe that these bims were so dumb that they did not know what generic meant of what wall mart is? I know they are worth a bundle but HELLO is there any gray matter up there.

so did anyone else catch this bimfest?

Thanks for taking the time to watch and letting us know all about it. From all the hype I thought we were facing an improved version of Green Acres. Sounds like we have a chance to see why notoriety does not equal ability. I am shocked and disillusioned, I guess I'll go sit in a corner and play my guitar, I had hoped that this program was going to save TV. (My local TV guides have the two bimbos on the cover as if Masterbate Theater was returning without the British touch.)

I grew up on a farm, I knew I would flip out over their naivete just from what I saw on the previews. I do my best not to support TV that shows how stupid people are. Watched the Horatio Hornblower movie instead on A&E while playing guitar...now there was some quality TV!

I think that this is just another sign that we are all doomed. Some rich bimbo gets a tv show that documents her attempting everyday chores that she in real life pays people to do and shows how stupid she is.

I think someone asked her about college and she said she did not need it since she would better spend the time enjoying life. Glad she can pay people to give her a clue.

Am I alone here or does this type of thing just turn you off to this woman or what?

Al, Just as with Jessica Simpson.... she's an idiot but not as much of an idiot as she appears to be. I think in the case of Jessica and Paris, they are both acting it up. "What's a Walmart?" Paris has never seen a commercial on television?
Reality television stopped being just that as soon as individuals realized they could get a career in entertainment acting out the "reality."
It's not about being the ultimate survivor, or showing the most amout of bravery dealing with a fear factor, or winning the heart of a bachelor, or earning the $50,000. It's about getting enough camera time to be noticed and getting commercials, shows, movies, or playboy. Acting so stupid that you're actually cute and sympathetic goes back a long way... although it has never landed me a sitcom! Did you see the ratings? Does Paris turn you off? Most of the world will disagree.

I bought a TIVO HD-R unit that is absolutely awesome. I can watch whatever I want on my own schedule with NO commercials. That means that I can squeeze THREE cheesy reality shows into a single hour. Just think of it - Joe Millionare, Paris Hilton, and Rich Girls all in less than 60 minutes. And commercial free - so that's a SOLID 60 minutes of quality programming, not your normal 42 minutes. Am I lucky or what? Dave

I keep wondering how the word "reality" has any relevance to these shows. Words like, stupid, idiot, contrived, fantasy, unreal, dumb, keep coming up in my mind. That these shows have such a large audience makes me wonder how much longer the republic can stand. And as someone just said, its no wonder that the rest of the world thinks we are stupid, depraved, ignorant and arrogant.

Absolutely, and what is worse, on OUR TV channels sullying OUR airwaves. Those bimbos only experience with life is what they see behind their image in a mirror as they prep and primp to collect our money. Of course they don't know Wal Wart, it didn't pay them for an endorsement. These losers travel from the stage to the mirror to the dinner table and back to the stage. sort of a modern version of a pig in a pen.

It would be interesting to hear an interview with "sisters" or some out-takes to find out what they are really like. I doubt they are as dumb as portrayed. Bailey eluded to the real deal. They probably don't even receive a paycheck for that show, but rather own a piece of it. They have no need to work, ever. The upside is that they employ a lot of people, and the any struggling "boutique" they find to purchase a pair of shoes or dress becomes a goldmine overnight. I'm sure a year ago their makeup artist wasn't making the 5K a day he is now making (his qoute "$2500 a piece every time they go out... which is every night")

I haven't watched any of the shows. I tried to one night just to see, but couldn't find it. How Anna Nicole got a TV show is beyond me. Again, it's the owners making a bundle, but how they picked her.... would love to have seen that sales pitch at the NATPE convention.

"So we got this fat dumb chick ex-stripper who used to live in a trailor and her sugar daddy died leaving her broke again. She has a dog, a son, can't dress herself and she mumbles."... I smell a hit!!!!

Paris Hilton or anna Nicole are both not Harvard grads.

I agree the Anna Nicole show was painful to watch but the Paris show is just strange. Are all rich bimbos that inept? It would make me crazy, but then again we would have enough money to have "people" to do all that stuff for us....

Being with someone like that might drive me crazy... but then again... I would be able to afford the shrink... it all works out. I just find it odd that so many people watch the shows. They are really an exponential goldmine because the production costs I would assume are a fraction of what a show like West Wing or SG1 costs. Probably even less than your typical daytime soap, yet at the same time, the ratings are so high the advertisers are paying top dollar.

I guess with these shows and shows like them, when you know or have known people like the parties involved they just aren't that funny.

Two months after my divorce, I was paying cable bill and realized that I had not even had it on for a month. Partly because I work second shift and partly because I was becoming sick of all the corporate advertising and crap that passes for "entertainment" today. I pulled the plug and haven't missed it (I'm by myself so it is easier). I'll still rent something once in a while and watch it with my son at his mom's or like last night, we went to see The Last Samurai. It's good to get out sometimes.

I just can't relate to most of what I see anymore. I look at a basketball game and 20 yr olds are multi-millionaires while the guy cleaning the restrooms is struggling to make 20 thou a year. Movie stars, atheletes, models etc are put up on a pedestal and earn more in a year than I will make in a lifetime.

Last but not least is what I call "the dumbing down of America" and how the powers that be have always kept us entertained and distracted from the reality of what they are doing. This goes back to the Romans. Our government is dangerously out of control. This rest of the world has known this for a long time but far too many Americans have been blind to it. We are not hated because we practice democracy, freedom and human rights. We are hated because our government denies these things to people in third world countries whose resources are coveted by our multi-national corporations. There is a book called "Blowback...The Costs and Consequences of American Empire" that was written in 2000, well before 9-11, that warned us that our government had been sowing the seeds of hatred around the globe for decades and it had come back to haunt us.

I agree with an open letter John Mellencamp and wife recently wrote...it's time to take our country back.....before it's too late if it isn't already. I hope as a nation we haven't become too apathetic. We were warned about that too...
It has been said that the average age of the world s greatest civilizations has been 200 years. These nations have progressed through the following sequence:
>From bondage to spiritual faith;
>From spiritual faith to great courage;
>From courage to liberty;
>From liberty to abundance;
>From abundance to selfishness;
>From selfishness to complacency;
>From complacency to apathy;
>From apathy to dependency;
>From dependency back into bondage.

This was written nearly 200 yrs ago...and here we are rapidly approaching the end of this cycle.

My son is 17. You can bet your ass, if this administration gets re-elected they well HAVE to reinstate the draft to keep up what they are doing. They aren't about to mention it in an election year but the groundwork is already being layed. Our sons in Iraq aren't dying for their country and they know it! They are dying for Halliburton, Carlyle, Bechtel, Lockheed Martin, insert name of favorite oil company here....it makes me sick. My family has given over 40 yrs to the Veterans hospital here in my home town. I'm sick of seeing lives wasted for lies, power, arrogance and greed. The most decorated Marine of all time...General Smedley Butler...wrote an essay years ago entitled War Is A Racket. He was right.

I'm sorry for the rant. Music and the guitar...long walks with my dog...doing things with my son...are all my therapy for dealing with things. When I see programs like the one mentioned it is a painful reminder to me that this nation has become "comfortably numb".

peace,
mark

Paul,

I agree that it is not a political board...it is a guitar board. The post I responded to was not a guitar post either. If it is ok for cliff to make the comment "Spend two solid minutes with a remote control "scanning" through network television, and you can truly understand WHY the Arabs wanna kill us!"....then a serious remark about how I view the subject should be viewed with the same tolerance as a joking one. It is indeed a sensitive subject but I think all sides can agree that we are in more danger of self-destructing from within than being destroyed from outside forces. Al's post stirred the thoughts that I presented. I'm a vet, my dad's a vet...my uncle. My family works with vets every day. So ya, I tend to think about things a little more deeply than most. We went to war based on lies and our sons and daughters are paying the price. Billions are being syphoned from the tax payers and into companies like Halliburton. That should have every american pissed off but far too many have become too apathetic. I'll keep my thoughts to myself from now on if it bothers you.

It doesn't exactly bother me, it's just that I also feel passionately, but different than you. My weakness in life is a love of political debate. You and I obviously feel differently about this subject and I'm working real hard not to ask "What lies", so that I can respond, which would start a huge discourse.

My brother in law and I go around and around on this at holiday get togethers. Drives our wives nuts. Then when we're done, we go out and barbque together.

Like Paul I love a good political debate, and I also think if something on this board stirs your feelings enough post it... then post away. Afterall isn't that what music is supposed to do, stir emotions.

My only comment for this thread I think is that I can credit our President for at least one good thing, and that is causing debate. I have learned and discussed more politics in the past few years than ever in my life, and most of my careers were spent working in or for the DOD.

Even a discussion about blondes and reality TV turns us toward thinking about security, and politics, even if just briefly. This is a good thing in my book. Maybe not the actual discussion, but at least be provoked to thought.

People say the "world" or "we" are not safe after 9-11. We weren't safe long before that, most of us were just too much in denial to notice. Is it something to loose sleep over? No, although I have.

By the way, I watched about 90% of an Anna N. show finally. Something about Danny Bonaducci and her at an acting class. It was pretty funny. Danny seemed to have a lot of fun with it.

Excellent Post.

I would welcome discussion about the Lies! And how Dick Cheney's Halliburton got the contract to rebuild Iraq, before the war even started. Now they are being investigated for price gouging. What a surprise.

I'm holding my tongue.....

Because I know you guys are right. Clinton lied when he said in 1997 that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction. I know that the weapons inspectors lied about the same thing before they were kicked out by Saddam. I know that John Kerry, Ted Kennedy and others were lying when they supported Clinton saying the same thing. I know that the U.N. must have been bullshitting us by telling us that Iraq violated 17 different U.N. directives after surrendering in 1991. I know that the press must have been lying when they reported that Saddam had tried to assasinate a former U.S. President. And It's a fact that the press lied when they reported that Saddam killed hundreds of thousands of his own people.

I know that those were the lies that were told. So, you guys are right. Now I'm outta here for a few days. I really hate these kind of discussions. And I also hate it when it's implied that I might not think and feel these things deeply because I'm not a vet.

See you guys later when we're back to guitars.

Al,

You're right.
And on a non-sequitar, if anyone is interested, The Committments is a good movie. I saw it this weekend. Putting a band, or any group of humans, together is sometimes like herding cats. Sometimes the results are beautiful though.

You forgot the official New Mexico question:

For those unfamiliar, it has to do with enchiladas.

I hope I didn't start any fistfights with such a controversial question.

Guys, I didn't mean to start anything.

Miles, I liked what you said about music stirring emotions. It allows us to express ourselves... much like writing which is another passion of mine. A few weeks ago I was looking into Dave's Josh White. I'm a curious person by nature and love to learn so I wanted to find out more about Ovation's first endorsee. I did some reading and ordered "Free and Equal Blues". I wanted to hear what the man had to say through his music. He wasn't just a blues or folk singer...many of his songs as well as the things he did outside of music were politically motivated. He was a civil rights activist. Jimmy Cliff whose music I love was much the same way. A lot of singers once sang about the polical climate of the day and many, like Josh White, were blacklisted for the things they did. More recently it's been the Dixie Chicks, Mellencamp, Willie Nelson, Sean Penn and many others who have been called "unamerican" for having the courage to take a stand and say "this is wrong!" It seems sometimes like we are in a modern day McCarthy era.

Paul (moody)...man, I didn't mean to get you worked up. I'll (try to) leave the politics out of my posts. I could say a lot more about why I posted what I did but I'll let it go. If you ever really want to discuss any of this privately, just drop me a line.

peace,

". . . Dixie Chicks, Mellencamp, Willie Nelson, Sean Pean . . ."

And most recently rapper Eminem.
Evidently, a line from one of Eminem's lyric(?) was taken as a threat against the President.

When Bush was informed that Eminem had made a threat against him, he asked:

"The red one or the yellow one?"

sorry. . . . . I just hadda "go there" ;)

I personally am down on the Dixie Chicks...not so much for what they said, but how and when they chose to say it...in a public forum outside the United States, at a sensitive point near the beginning of the war.

I firmly believe in their right to their opinion and the freedom to speak it, but freedom also brings with responsibility, and I thought that they were a little irresponsible by their (well, actually Natalie Maines') action happening when and where it did. They also need to realize that freedom of speech includes the freedom of other people to not agree with them.

That said, I like their music......and I'll get over the comment. Their song "Traveling Soldier" makes their point far more elequently than their words ever could have. If they had just played that song and not said ANYTHING.......

I believe it was Pete Seeger who had the sign on his guitar, "This machine kills fascists". The power of music.....

Just one little comment here..I too am passionate about politics but I won't go into that..I just hope all of you who feel strongly actually bother to go out and vote. I've talked to a lot of opinionated people who don't...I like to tell them if they don't vote,their opinion doesn't matter.

Actually it was Woody Guthrie. Crap brit Dylan-wannabe Donovan ripped it off and had the phrase "This Machine Kills" on his guitar, which is just fence-sitting and the mark of a man lacking the courage of his convictions.

It would appear that from a political & philosophical standpoint, Woody & Natalie have something in common.

Roger...Natalie Maines admitted that she should have handled that situation differently. She made the comment during a very emotional time when millions of people around the world were protesting what we were about to do...I was one of them. Personally, I love the fire in her spirit and agree about Travelin Soldier...it's a great song and I think it was really hurting her that we were about to create more unnecessary pain and heartache.

If you are going to talk about responsibility in the things we say, we need to include the President. You should read an article a retired master sergeant (whose son is in Iraq) wrote about Bush's "Bring Em On" remark. It was considered extremely insensitive and irresponsible by most in the armed forces any many in the media...and this is just one of many examples of the things he has said.

"Bring 'Em On?"

We'll let it lie. There's nothing wrong with passionate feelings and it appears that we both have them. Much better than living a life with no passion.

Somebody just made a comment about voting. I would suspect that Mark is like me and never misses a chance to vote. It's one of my favorite things to do. Sometimes, I wish I lived in Chicago where the motto is "Voter early, vote often".

Back to guitars. I just saw the Made In American tape on Ovations. Looks like a cool new pre amp, the OP Pro, and it looks like Ovation is going back to truss rod covers. Next year ought to be fun. Can't wait to get to NAMM and see the new equipment.

Thanks to Paul T., it was indeed Woody Guthrie whose guitar "killed fascists". I didn't know Donovan had done a variation on it.

Yes, let's go back to guitars......in what part of the Made In America program was the new electronics shown? I didn't see it. The new guitars with truss rod covers look cool, I'm looking forward to seeing them in the shops.
