For the Custom Legend, Ovation states "Thanks to the Ovation five-piece neck contstruction, the 12 string necks are thin and fast. Even the smallest hand has no problems on our 12 string guitars."

Curious of the neck differences for GC, Pacemaker, Balladeer, and Elite. Understand construction of neck is different (i.e., 2pc v. 5pc) but focusing on size, playability, and "feel".

Any thoughts?

I have a brand new W598 and a W597. These are Adamas, not the ones you mention.
The W598 neck is definitely not as thick as the W597. Also, the W598 seems to have a much less pronounced "V" shape than the 6-string W597.

What I will say is this. The Ovations are definitely the most comfortable 12-strings I have tried, and I tried a LOT of them before deciding to buy the W598. I would say their advertising is not overstating the case. However, it does give rise to the question of whether or not they are sturdy enough. I would guess so, and I'm betting on it because I am keeping my 12-string at concert pitch all the time.

Thanks...the one ME that I had the opportunity to try felt great, have heard great things about the Adamas. Too bad the GC (in San Diego/La Mesa) had no Adamas yesterday. In fact, one 6-str Elite and 5-6 Celebs. IMHO, can't go wrong with the Adamas and CL. I play my 12-strings far more than my 6-str's and (besides the strength of the neck), the "feel" is very important to me.

Looking at the GC's and Pacemakers on eBay, very tempted to pick up a slothead if I can't find a CL slothead. Yet, never played a GC or Pacemaker. Sure won't find one in local guitar shops.

If I have to worry about the strength of the neck, won't buy it...IMHO, Ovation has done a great job throughout the US models, past and present.

The subject of neck shape and feel of the 6 string/ 12 string neck is how I earn my living. The 6 string models are shaped to the current "V" shape handed down from engineering. The 12 string models are also shaped in a "v" but....we use a templet and carve it to give it a more "U" feel. We once had a Balladeer cell just to build Balladeers.....and the necks we more "U" shape like a Gibson, however we are now back to the "V" shape. Currently we have 4 carvers, and everyone is on the same page. The maple "t" model is shaped and carved in the "U" shape.

Oh Ya.......I forgot......neck strenth......the K-Bar is an aluminum cantaliver beam with a tension rod embedded in 2 part epoxy. It was designed by Kaman, and Man they did it right. Oh and they designed Helicopters.

To Adamas72 - my hats off to all of you, your effort is appreciated.

I guess what I am really asking is are the necks of the different 12-string models similar in feel. There is variance allowed when I say similar. As an example, disregarding whether 2pc, 5pc, etc., if I am used to a CL 12 (the 6759 and 1659, used to have 1158) would I feel that the neck was comfortable if it was a 1118 GC or a 1115 Pacemaker?

Tony:

I've got a 69 GC 12 string and a 93 Adamas. The necks feel very different. The GC is flater on the back, the Adamas much more rounded.

Thanks Paul...type of input I'm looking for. Negative side of eBay is you can't caress her before you commit.
