I'm trying to check out something that is not adding up. One piece of info I'm looking for is to figure out approximately how many 2003 collector editions were produced. Anyone have any idea? 300? 500? 2000?

Sorry, don't know.

But JUST saw the newest musicians friend catalog yesterday selling them for what seems very cheap. If they have 'em, perhaps a lot were made.

Good question ... I'm sure Ovation will publish the number sometime soon. Initially, Ovation was producing 1500 - 2000 per year, but the last few years the number has dwindled to around 700. Maybe the shine is off the apple, so to speak? Maybe someone out there has seen some S/Ns that could give some sort of indication ... the collectors are numbered starting from 1 and sequentially up to the total issue number.

Mine is 113, I am sure that is a low one.

Just found this caveat at Musician's friend re: drastic price drop on 2003 Collector's Edition

"NOTE: Ovation has placed a label in these instruments stating that they are factory reconditioned. In fact, they are A-Stock instruments in perfect condition."

Not sure what they are saying here but, F.Y.I.

best regards

I've been thinking the same thing. The 2003 Collector FRG's seem to be everywhere on the net.

I boutght one of those 2003 collector's editions at Victor Lintz (online). It is a beautiful guitar--#367.

I can't imagine this Really being an FRG. It is new and spotless. Maybe overstocked, or returned from dealers unopened?
