Hi...I'm new to the fan club. Just bought a Glen
Campbell balladeer 1677 on ebay. Can anyone tell me anything about it? I know it is an older....1982..guitar. And one of the first cutaways introduced my Ovation. Can anyone tell me anything else?

Welcome Mary!

I'm not the one to inform you regarding the GC Balladeer, (others are far more qualified and will be posting) but I have two Balladeers and just LOVE them! I'm sure that yours will become a treasured friend (if it hasn't already!)!!

It's really nice to have more Women joining the ranks of the OFC! We can sure use a "ladies touch" now and then!.... sometimes it's like a Frat house in here!! :D

Hi Mary,

As I recall the cutaway GC was only made for 2 years and is actually somewhat rare. If I'm not mistaken it has a cutaway deep bowl instead of the Artist bowl (although I could be wrong on that one). Essentially I would think it should sound and play very similar to the deep cutaway Legends. I'm guessing that it has the stacked Volume and Tone control pre-amp. A very nice guitar that you should be happy with for a long time.

Thanks guys! I have been looking at ovations for quite a while on ebay....just couldnt decide which because I want them all! I have wanted one since I was a teenager! Hope this one gets to me in good shape. I currently own an old F25 conn that is around 35 years old and sounds as good as most Martins out there. And a newer Ibanez that I bought so my daughter would pick it up instead of my Conn.....she has a tendency to bang it into things.
Any more info would be appreciated. I wanted a newer 1861....but could not resist the impulse to buy the GC.

From a 1983 catalog, I'm reading that the 1677 is the Legend sahllow bowl cutaway, not a Glen Campbell model (I'll get to that in a second). It was built in the first one or two years of the cutaways.

Per the catalog, it has a AAA spruce top and an "A" bracing pattern. It has the stacked volume tone control.

As noted above, it's not a Glen Campbell model, but it should be. For some reason (maybe they were phasing out the GC models at this time) Ovation decided to call the guitar a Legend even though the only difference between this guitar and the GC model was the cutaway.

Regardless, I've always thought that this was a keeper guitar (or it would be if I ever had one). A fuller sound than the original GC Artist (due to the better "A" bracing pattern as opposed to the GC's VT-8 pattern), and a cutaway. I think you are going to be very very happy with this guitar.

I saw on ovationguitar.com on their timeline that this model was called a Legend....but if you look at the coding at the same site it says it is a GC...pretty confusing. Any idea on actual value.....I may have paid too much.

Every Glen Campbell Artist I've ever seen (including the 1983 catalogs from which I got the info on the your guitar) lists the model number of the GC guitars as 1127 (acoustic), and 1627 (acoustic electric). As far as I know, they've never been anything else.

As for value of your guitar, I've seen them go for anywhere from $450 to $700. Even $700 is a bargin for what you are getting. Like everything else in the open market, if you are happy with the guitar then it's worth whatever you paid for it. Don't worry about getting a "good deal", or a "bad deal". You bought a great guitar.

Thanks paul....I was pretty sure it was a pretty good deal but will have to see when it arrives...the pics looked pretty good considering the guitar is over 20 years old. And my opinion is guitars have a tendency of sounding better as they age, so I can't wait to get my hands on it...appreciate your info and time.

Geez Mary --- you paid $375 and you're worried that you paid too much??? You stole that guitar!!!! It's worth twice that much!!! But if you feel bad about it, I'll give you $375 for it right now. It's worth twice that.

You are going to love that thing. It looks to be in great shape. I don't see any cracks in the face surface or in the wood. Even if everything is not perfect, for the price you paid, you can get it perfect easily.

Congrats on a great buy. I expect a full report and pics to be posted here when you get it. This guitar is going to be a keeper for you.

Thanks Paul,
I thought I was getting a deal....glad to hear it confirmed. I saw it early this am on ebay and basically jumped on it. I had enough on the credit card after xmas but just couldn't resist the impulse. Though I have been waiting for a cherry 1861 with op 30 to show up. The last one I had my eye on got pulled from auction within an hour of the end.

Mary, this is a better guitar than what you were looking for. And you could send it to Ovation and have an OP 40 installed, or spend a hundred bucks and buy an external equilizer. The quality of the guitar you bought is very high and with 20 years behind it, it's got to sound wonderful.
