The list price is a bit more than some have estimated. That's assuming you can tell anything from what's listed on some sites.

You think that's a bit more than expected? I think it's a damn good price for what you are buying.

I am already thinking of buying an LX (a LX? an LX?) and am thinking of special ording it with the original Legend fretboard inlay, possibly a 5 point bridge, an upgrade on the wood top (to AAA select spruce), and possibly a deep bowl.

Paul,

Is that the new limited issue "P.I." model?

Distinct possibility Mr. C. But please note that I would not order it with the optional "Kevlar" back. Too heavy.

I know a few flight crews or Hummer drivers who would appreciate a detachable "Kevlar" back to sit on when in harms way. In Cammi of course.

$1050 and free shipping for the Elite LX sounds like a great deal to me. Dave

I see that at this point they are following the dictum of my CEO's great-grandfather...."Any color you want as long as it's black"!

I think the price is a little high also, but if the cheaper non-LX model is still around, then at least there is a choice if money is a concern.

Why do you think the price is high? Do you think the guitar is not worth the money? Are you saying that the guitar won't compete against like priced other guitars? Have you played one to know what they are like?

Give it a chance before you start saying that it's priced too high. I hate to be blunt, but at this point, you don't know what you are talking about.

In that add it sells in black only, but the picture isn't. 29% under list for an Ovation is ok but not great. In a previous post I asked Al if he thought the street price would be about $1050. Off by one dollar! Actually, I thought that would be about the highest it would be. It wouldn't really make sense to keep make a normal model, then make an lx model when the price point difference is under 100 dollars, does it? I would think the older models are phasing out and the lx is not really an upgrade to the old model, but the next generation in the line-up replacing the old model and competing at about the same price. Of course, I could be incorrect, as difficult as that is to imagine.

Paul, if I hear it, I may NOT think it is too high. My perception of street price for the Elite is around $850. I just wonder if the LX sounds $200 better. It may for an awful lot of people, which is good for Ovation.

I have to admit, I have NEVER played an Elite, there have never been ANY in any of the shops I have been in, so I am speaking from ignorance as far as this particular model. I'm drawing from my experience with Balladeers and Legends.

I have found from playing Ovations and Adamas that IMHO the "bang-for-the-buck" curve gets a little flat once you get into the U.S.-made Ovations. Balladeers sound pretty darn good, Legends sound a little better, Adamas sounds a little better yet. "How much sound quality do you want to pay for?" is the bottom line.

For comparision, I think the street price of $1500-$1700 for an Adamas 6-string is CHEAP compared to a Gibson J-185!!!! The Adamas whips it soundwise every which way....which is not to say the Gibson is bad, just that the Adamas is that GOOD.

I AM watching the Elite LX with some interest, as I am interested in the "Autumn Burst" color in the model. I just hope a shop in SE Michigan bothers to get one in so I can actually HEAR one.

Honest comments Roger. We're all looking forward to playing the LX models. I should be able to play one at NAMM (along with several others on the board) and will post my impressions (as will others). I suspect that we'll also have a full opportunity to play them at the OFC gathering in March.

Come on out to California and try my 1537 Elite. I think you'll be impressed. It sold new for about $1100, and now goes on the ebay market for anywhere from $450-$700. Yet it compares with guitars that sell new, now, for up to $2500. The market for used Ovations is good for us buyers. I hope it doesn't stay that way. These guitars deserve better.

I don't think the price is too high...just higher than some had predicted it to be. Wish my local dealer would get one in stock.
