I've never seen one of these. Does anyone know anything about them.

Ancient instruments, there's references to the Psaltery in the Old Testament. Basically its a primitive harp, though there are 2 types - plucked & bowed. This one is a bowed Psaltery. There's also the Table Harp, which is closely related. The most common & modern, if you call medieval modern, were in widespread use in Europe up to the mid 1500's but there's variations all over the world. The Psaltery eventually evolved into or influenced the Zither, Appalacian & hammered dulcimer & harp.

I'd always wanted to get a hammer dulcimer.
I love the sound of those things!!
I seem to remember StewMac had kits in their catalog for them.

Paul T.,

Your knowledge is always amazing. Yes, the Psaltery is an instrument mentioned in the Old Testament for use in praising God. I knew that much.... and now I know much, much more! Thanks!

I have an extensive library of music-related reference books, plus I'm severely anal-retentive.
