And for some reason it takes a 20 mule team to move it & Ronald Reagan to sell it. |

The point of this post is that if you have some difficulties Al knows his too and can help find answers! |

I thought they dug that stuff outa the desert in Nevada or somewhere? Big wagon, 20 mule team & all that crap? That's how they were doing it right there in living black & white when Ronnie was shilling it on the Movin' West show back in the 50's wasn't it? I'll look some more...
borax
\Bo"rax\, n. [OE. boras, fr. F. borax, earlier spelt borras; cf. LL. borax, Sp. borraj; all fr. Ar. b?rag, fr. Pers. b?rah.] A white or gray crystalline salt, with a slight alkaline taste, used as a flux, in soldering metals, making enamels, fixing colors on porcelain, and as a soap. It occurs native in certain mineral springs, and is made from the boric acid of hot springs in Tuscany. It was originally obtained from a lake in Thibet, and was sent to Europe under the name of tincal. Borax is a pyroborate or tetraborate of sodium, Na2B4O7.10H2O.
Where's Tuscany? Izzat in Nevada?

Not really. All I know is how to use the searchy thing in MSIE, sorta.
Can't help you on the three bluegrass tunes.

Location: Las Cruces, NM | Boron, a major costituent of borax is one of the strongest moderators for a nucleur reaction and is usually the ingredient in control rods and the "Scram" system that shuts down a reactor in an emergency. Vicey versey it is an impurity that you do not want in other reactor components so it must be completely segregated from nucleur fuel production facilities. It is, or was, mined out at Trona, CA in the northern Mojave, I knew a fellow who got a divorce in the 50's in LA and retreated to a chem plant in Trona to escape civilization to reconstruct his life. They lived out there in dormitories then, fed, housed and controlled in a final remnant of the old "company" town and store. He escaped to Ohio, and later back to CA where he ran "Good Time Charlie's" bar in Ocean Beach in the 60's.
Three Bluegrass songs??
Fox on the Run
Fireball Mail
Little Maggie
But you have to go out in the CA desert and jam around a fire at night to learn them.

Location: Waurika OK | A little more on Boron. Back in the 60's when I worked for General Dynamics in Ft. Worth, the first composite materials (as in Adamas tops) was not carbon but boron. They knew that carbon would be the coming thing and would be on the next airplane they built (the next airplane for GD was the F-16), but were working with boron. The price as I remember was $1600 a pound.
One time one of the R & D groups brought a piece overlaid with this composite to the tooling machine shop to have some lathe work done. No one in tooling knew what the material was, it was so hard the lathe operator put coolant on it to try to keep the cutting tool from dulling so fast. The adhesive that was used gave way and the strips turned loose and went in every direction, $20,000 down the tubes.

Location: NJ | I've placed a call to the hotel this morning and left a message in Ronnie's voicemail. Awaiting a call back.
And . . . I have rented a passenger van for the trip to CT as I will be transporting Master Templeman and his UK entourage from their "Manhattan Holiday".
I tried desperately to find a van painted like a Union Jack and has the steering wheel on the "wrong side", but they were fresh out.
I'm opting for mounting a "dummy" steering wheel on a big suction cup to the passenger-side dashboard to keep Templeman occupied. A high-output exhaust fan is also being fitted to the underside of the passenger seat.
Fortunately Witko isn't accompanying us, as I don't think I can procure a hitch-mounted Port-O-John on such short notice. |

Location: NJ | Cool. It looks like so far we've booked more than HALF of our allotted attendance and almost TWICE what we had last year (". . we're gonna need a bigger boat . . ." - Roy Scheider).
If we keep going at this rate, 100 people MAY be a possibility. That'd be AWESOME!!!
SIGN UP now!!!
It's stuff like THIS that'd get Ovation "positive" press if it were to "leak" to trade publications (hint, hint).
I know it may sound easy for me to be touting this because I live "somewhat" local to the factory, and face it, this is a MAJOR expense for a LOT of you guys to undertake . . . believe me, . . . it's WORTH IT! . . . you will NOT be disappointed!!
Last year, we had a courageous few who ventured from Wisconsin, California, and the UK!! It wasn't any cheaper THEN and these same people are coming BACK again this year, after already seeing it! THAT'S gotta TELL you something!!
Fuck eBay!!
"Pull the Trigger" on THIS!!!
You WILL be glad you did!!!
Just got confirmation on my room from Jeremiah ("like the bullfrog" - HIS words, not mine) at the hotel. Nice chap.
Asked if I had any "special requests".
I told him just that I wanted my room to be on a COMPLETELY different plumbing waste line than Witko's and Templeman's respective rooms.
He said "I don't understand . . "
"You will." I told him. |

You don't necessarily need to talk to Ronnie to make your reservations as I believe the whole staff is aware of the tour arrangements. I called and made my reservations Sunday night(9:15 EST)and spoke to Lynn(Ronnie had already gone home)and she knew of the tour and the special rate, etc. I had no problems at all and Lynn was very nice!!
****
I'm excited and looking forward to the tour and meeting everyone!!(also Cliff, you promised me I could play your slothead!! I hope you have it insured!! :D )

That's primarily why I'm bringing it, so that "those that wants, can play it". (Except I always have to make those "Hannibal Lechter Security Provisions" whenever PlayAdamas is in the same room with it.)
I haven't "properly" insured it yet as my Letter of Authenticity has a somewhat faint odor of old jet fuel to it. ;) |

Unfortunately I'm not going to be able to make it Al. We have a building permit fiasco going here. We're trying to build a workshop/storage building. The permit bullshit has been dragging along since last November already & it's beginning to get expensive. I hope you all have a good time & I'm sure you'll keep "us that couldn't be there" in the know here on the OFC.

I'd love to go, but I also will love to hear about the tour as going isn't in my stars at the present time, on top of everything else my granddaughter just had a C-section baby and all is fine, a bright spot in the scheme of things.
I just saw on TV that the beautiful double decker buses in Britain are being phased out and are for sale. Youse guys should buy at least 10 of them to haul around the tour members. They are BIG, RED, and BEAUTIFUL, what more could you want?

I thought I answered this yesterday, but must have hit the wrong button. Won't be able to make this year, so you folks take some good pictures for us.
I really liked the group shot from last year, it is great to be able to put a face with the name!

Location: Minden, Nebraska | I won't be there, either. My profession is pretty well tied up weekends, and the season leading up to Easter is a very busy and involved time for me. I am working with a series that helps explain much of the movie "The Passion", so will be tied to home. I will be working while you guys enjoy the tour, tho I will be playing a Custom Legend on Sunday morning and that is a more easily borne aspect of my job...
It would be a privilege to meet those who are attending, but that will have to be another time! |

| Did'nt want to post another string figured you all may see this one? I am wondering if the Factory might have a memorabiolia shop of sorts? Or perhaps elsewhere on the Web? I would like to have at least one real nice 8 by 10 glossy of any big name musician playing an Adamas similiar to mine? I remember someone mentioning Nancy Wilson... That sure would not be hard on the eyes ! Just want to frame one for the music room. And NO I don't want an 8 BY 10 glossy of you guy's and your collections! Well maybe if you just have the guitars in the photo? |
