1655 vs. 1755

I own a 1755 and it appears identical. Ovation changed the model number from 1655 to 1755 starting in 1985. What was the reason for the model number change? Did it have something to do with the depth of the bowl? My 1755 has the FET-24 equalizer whereas the 1655 has the volume control only.
