A good friend of mine just won the bidding on this one for his son. His boy has been playing a solidbody electric so we thought a SS cutaway would be a good fisrt ac/elec for him. Looks like a really good deal to me.

Nils,

I just got back from the Mall. Picked up Kaki King's "everybody loves you" and underneath the CD is a picture of a little girl and her "little" guitar. Across and under "thanks" it reads "This record is for my dad, who bought me my first guitar."

Putting an instrument in the hands of a youngster is a wonderful thing!

Good job!

The Custom Balladeer arrived today & I played it tonight. It is in excellent condition & the electrics work great. It needs strings (surprise) so I'll put a new set of Elixirs on it for him tomorrow. I'll probably pull a shim or two & tweak the truss rod a tad as well, it has more relief than it needs. It's pretty good, but there's room for improvement. His boy is used to playing a solidbody electric so he's probably going to want it lower. I know I would. Sounds pretty good unplugged considering it's a SS. It has a two piece mahogany neck like my 1612, only slimmer & with an oil finish. I like it! :)

Thanks Goob, but it's not for my son, it's for my friends son. I have a nephew that's doing really well with the Tak I bought him last summer though. :) Since he's stuck with it he'll be getting an Ovation before too long as well.

After re-reading this I think I should clarify. I meant he stuck with practicing, not that he's "stuck" with the Tak :)

I pulled the old strings off, tweaked the truss rod about 1/3rd of a turn & put on a set of Elixir lights. No shims in there to pull & no need to pull any, the minor truss rod adjustment & new strings made it play very nicely.
I guess I got lucky & got it right first try. I think I'm getting the hang of this string height/action/neck adjustment business.
This is the first SS 6 string American Ovation I've played. I like it, not as much as my 2002 Collectors, but I like it. :)
John gave it to his son Travis this evening. I took my Shen. Jr. over so he could plug it in. Bingo, another happy new Ovation owner. They know about the board, maybe they will join us.
