Thanks A Bunch Al ! Just a quick shot to show the color changes from then to now? They are both wonderful but I have to say in person the older color from 1978 on the twelve sets off the Walnut wood, and What was the 6 Al? 1988? anyway big difference. Guess it is going to be WAY to big an order for me to have these matched? At any rate I guess for me-- I have the best of the old and the new. Now how about if could afford one of those RARE Slot head adamas's they made about 33 of! and an Adamas Bass! I,d never leave the house again ! well until the bank repossesed the place anyway. Thanks agian Al Sorry for the extra work on this but perhaps this will make a good discussion? Back to playin Randy

It's sorta like looking into the face of a dear, departed Austrialian Shepherd named Magic.

Seriously, magic's gotta be the word for these two. If you could just swipe Cliff's slothead ... you'd have the ultimate collection and everyone here would be begging to be adopted. :p

Just use the 6 string in a smoke filled room for awhile and it'll look just like the 12. Dave

Just use the 6 string in a smoke filled room for awhile and it'll look just like the 12. There's a question do these adamas tops fad or darken through the years? I know this color #7 was or is? listed as Beige The 6 is certainly a white fade to blue. Guess we will have to wait and see. Sounds like a good excuse to take up smoking again!
Speaking of Slot Heads I saw Elias's one through a search for Adamas guitars Man Cliff If you have one I won't mention the $$$ value here you will get emails and knocks on the door! Beautiful piece of machinery! Like to see abunch of these all in one room Must be a good time jammin at this Tour coming up? If I don't make this one I will try for next year. Cliff I'll show you mine if you show me your's!

I know I'm stating the obvious (which is usually all I'm capable of), but the12 looks like the beige and the 6 the blue. I've seen older pics of blue Adamii and they don't look like the 12. Is it possible that the 12 was mislabeled?

Paul I found a color chart on a web site from the UK I am sure Ovation must have one on their site as well. I that chart the #7 color is listed as Beige and it is the right color for the 12 string 1688-7 those did fad to blue in the center. I't the same one I saw as a kid! Todays version of #7 I do not think is listed as Beige it is listed as the Reverse Blueburst? I could be wrong but there is another color I think #8 today that is also a blue but that has a light blue surround with avery dark blue almost black center color? so the #7 color changed ? Must be in the 83-84 era when these older models were ended? Again interesting discussion but kind of beats a dead horse so-to-speak. Guess I have to chalk this one up to my approaching "Old Fartdom" I don't like the change..

I've got a 93 Adamas 12 string and it's color is "8", reverse blueburst. That's why I'm thinking that if both of your guitars are color 7, then the 6 string may have been mislabeled.

It's the little things like this that prove we're all anal about our guitars.

". . . Cliff, I'll show you mine if you show me yours . . ."

It IS posted in my gallery, but you seem to have some "gallery issues" :) so here it is:

"Nice Pair" y'got there, Randy!!

I've always contended that there have been a LOT of subtle variations in the Adamas "blue" dependant upon when they were made. could it be that the finish "formula" changed in the guitar's development?

Randy, as per Dave's suggestion:
Lemme borrow that guitar for six month's of gigs in the smokey Jersey bars that I play every weekend, and it'll match nicely ;)

Nice Thanks for the photo's Randy Not going to worry about my Adamas color's I thought it may be as simple as a paint job Guess Ovation has to do a replace ment? Not that worried about the two color's. Like I said I guess I look at it as the best of the old and the new! Randy

Actually, I DO have the original sales receipt from the store (not made out to me, though) that says it's #20.

. . . BUT, . . . I also have a Letter of AuthenFugginTicity (from an Ovation muckymuck) that states that's it #54 SlotHead. (I actually have two different letters, but THAT'S another story) ;)

Cliff I noticed a web site by someone named Elias?? Figure he may be a member or? He has a lot of information posted with the slothead adamas he has for sale. In this site he mentions that the first 27 or, 28 or, so, of these slotheads were prototypes and never sold??? making numbers 28 though 54? or so the only ones made? His is # 33 making his the 5th Ovation slothead your's may be #54 making it the 20th or whatever?? Randy
