A cutaway version of the 12-fret Adamas slothead, with a pickup & Op50

And that blue Reso we saw last year. That still keeps me awake at night

A little more back to earth -

And might be something we'll see too!

Maybe a Super Legend LX. Think in terms of hand picked select top, full vosual treatment with wide inlaid rosette, and an inlaid MOP logo on the headstock too. Make it real pretty, make it real nice to hear and play, and make the top wood. And.. make sure its got a lo-Z output as well.

A Custom Elite, deep bowl, op-pro pre, carved headstock and bridge. Possibly with LX modifications but I haven't tried one yet.

Adamas I, Slot Head, Cutaway, Deep, OP 50, 1/4 & XLR, Ebony board, Now I'm looking for help with the fret markers... The lazer cutting they can do now can make it special.

I do like the "old" -8 color on my 1688... Like a pair of faded blue jeans.

Yes, I will keep thinking of the fret markers...

What I want to have Ovation build later this year for my 50th birthday, a Legend LX, AAA bearclaw spruce top with age toner, old style Legend fretboard, 5 point ebony bridge, OP Pro, AND a deep bowl made of the new lighter material with the new neck configuration.

In other words, a new modern version of my 68 Deluxe Balladeer.

C'mon Ovation, do the deep bowl for me!

Very close to Al's: Adamas I, slothead, cutaway, textured top, ebony fingerboard, whatever preamp was factory installed, deep bowl, reverse red burst. I saw a 1587 just like this (except it looked like a rosewood fingerboard, I could get used to it...) on eBay about a year ago. Next time I will pull the trigger.

So, Al... how long before you round all these up? :)

On a more practical note, what would each of you be willing to give to obtain your dream project? (I'm sure there's a market for used souls somewhere!)
I'm thinking one of these critters would set you back several grand, at least.

I have my dream guitar now, my new Legend LX. For 22 years all I played was an Adamas 1, but I much prefer the Legend LX. I hope I am around another 22 years to enjoy it.

Why do you prefer the Legend LX?

Oh, also on my dream LX, I would have abalone around the body and in the neck inlays. And gold tuners with pearloid buttons.

Paul, the LX is hard to describe. The Adamas is a loud guitar, and it has a tone all it's own. The first time I strummed a chord on the LX, I new it was for me. The LX has a deep sound that again I am not sure how to describe. Also, the neck on it really fits my hand well. It just has that "it" factor that you know about but is hard to describe. A big plus also for the LX is how light it is. When you are using a strap, it just feels perfect. Like I told Tony Calman, it is like Ovation made this guitar just for me.

A Custom Legend slothead 12-str with the OP-Pro, bear claw spruce, with or without the LX.

and/or a textured top Adamas slothead 12-str with the OP-Pro.

Or Cliff sells me his Adamas 12 slothead for $1,000 - hey, I can dream can't I?

I just got back from playing a Legend LX (about an hour ago so the sound is still fresh in my head!!) and I agree with Paul H. about the sound and the shape of the neck! The store didn't have an Elite LX to try(I wanted to compair sound differences and see the inlaid epaulets but I've got a (biased)feeling the round soundhole is going to do it for me!! :D ) and they said that they just sold an Balladeer LX yesterday!! The two guys at the counter both were pretty knowledgeable about the features of the LX's and seemed excited! The fit and finish on the Legend was excellent!! I LOVE the look of the inlaid rosette and the "skunk stripe" on the back of the neck is thinner than the older Legends but I think it looks nice. The ebony bridge and the black peghead veneer was gorgeous! Like Paul H, I liked the rounded shape of the neck(real comfortable for my fat hand) The sound was deep and rich with alot of bass(I fingerpicked it acoustically) The only "drawback" I noticed(and I'm probably nit-pickin')was that the preamp was kinda of loose/wobbly(OP-Pro)
From what I see so far(going to keep checking back to see if they get a Elite LX)I beleive Ovation has a winner in the LX's(gotta get me one!!)

But, for something I don't have, a blueburst Adamas 6-string with no cutaway and deep bowl. 5-piece neck, black headstock. No electronics needed.

Take a first generation Folklore(Deep bowl, slot head, X Bracing, non cutaway, 12 frets to the body). Narrow nut width like the '97 Collectors Edition. Use the scalloped bracing, lighter bowl and adjustment rod setup like the LX. Make it Acoustic/Electric with the current state of the art preamp. Accent it with a bound neck and 15 inlays like the Legend. Finish should be '70s sunburst(-1).

The common theme through all of this thread is having an Ovation that sounds good unplugged -- just played as an acoustic guitar.

Isn't it interesting that for years Ovation has been selling itself as the plugged in choice. And most of the people here are not even concerned about that. And we're excited by and buying the LX because it is a great sounding unplugged guitar. And are excited by the 12 fret slothead Adamas.

And what's really cool is that Ovation reads this board.

My dream O would be like Patsbro's except I like the original Folklore's nut width (1 7/8) with an inlaid rosette and it's gotta be in Natural(-4) finish!! Might look "cool" also if it had the ebony bridge and black peghead veneer!!

You gotta have more than one Dream! Successive dreams are the way to go.

3-5 year dream - Light bodied/new truss -Longneck 12 string Textured Top, deep-full bowl in thin gloss black with carved ebony bridge, ebony fretboard with custom MoP alpha-omega inlays, MOP edge and Logo inlay and an OP Pro with balanced and 1/4" outlets from the H/O.

Within a year - LX Mid bowl cutaway 12 string multi-hole in vintage tone on the Bearclaw spruce with the inlaid epaulets, surrounded by MoP edge and inlays over ebony frets and bridge. OP Pro from the H/O piezo. Where I will find a strap that is worthy I may never know.

Grandpa Plan - Any guitar the little buggers want as long it's the right one!

See what you've started AL! It's been fun reading about everyone's dream guitar. There are lot's of different Ovation fantasies out there. Yet, this is all the more reason that Ovation should launch a configuator on their web site. Or perhaps you could have a simple version on your web site. A configuator lets you build your custom guitar on line by specifying all the components and it even let's you know price. Very much like ordering a Dell computer.

Now for the serious answer.
A Q.
Not the ones they're making now with those gay squiggles for sound holes but one like the originals that had a dodge viper grill look to it. One of these with a 1 3/4 nut and a nice thick, but hollow neck. A grafite bowl for more lightness and flatten out the back some so it won't slide off the leg (yes it happens to me too). Waverly keys for light weight, ebony bridge and f/b (or a real hard phenolic) Straight acoustic, no inlays, all black. It would get that stealth look. The whole thing would come in at less that 4 pounds and would sound great.

Maybe I should just file that request between the "Few things more interesting than someone else's newspaper" and "I don't want a fishing boat, I want a best friend with a fishing boat".

With so many wonderful flavors to choose from how can anyone settle on the perfect guitar?

Impatient I may come across but I really am excited at what new directions Ovation and it's Fan's are going.

Living in Florida what you said is totally true, you don't want a boat, just several freinds with boats!
And I like your ideas about guitars, or was that guns? you can never have enough. And the ultimate guitar is only the ultimate till you've finally got it and then it moves to the next guitar you want.
That said, when you get the longneck 12 sorted out it should be in the top 10 of anyone's list.

That is just too far. There are priveledges in this country like driving. You got to learn how to do it right (although parts of New Jersey are exempt)or you don't drive. When you vote you need to know how to do it (as seen in Palm Beach) and know the language of the country you are in. That's not too much to ask.

Bill,

One of the behavioral programs we do is a Repeat Offender Traffic Program (16hrs) - in the last 3 months, had at least 14 different languages (besides English and Spanish) where they had to bring their own translator. This means that they have had more than one traffic offense, no longer eligible for regular traffic school...then we get a number of date of births with month and day listed as one (01/01/70.) By the way, many of the individuals needing translators have been in the US for a number of years (or are cab drivers.)

Not bashing, just that eventually they should assimilate.

that purpleburst Adamas with the wide neck, ebony fingerboard and single 12th fret inlay, and deep bowl that I passed on a year or two back from a certain well-reknowned Ovation dealer. Darn thing has been haunting me ever since. Only way to improve it would be to make it a longneck (and I'll take a matching 12-string to go with it).

hey mr templeman! we have a dog now (and he ain't no Jack Russell terrier lol). I think we need another pizza night - email me at stongemon-at-aol-dot-com when you have a chance. Thanks.

The Deacon 6 and 12's are all I ever liked as far as Ovations go... so I guess I have all my "dream" Ovations! Almost down to 2 of each, just have to change out parts between 4 6's and then I'm selling 2 of them so if anyone wants a tobacco burst or light tan deacon 6.. it should be up in a couple weeks on eBay! Watch for it!

Best Regards! Bush must DIE or at least LOSE, but his death would unfortunately be better ;^) THANKS!

you forgot to mention that it was a slothead.

Please do not make references to killing or harming people on this message board. No matter what your feeling about the president (or anyone for that matter) these references can be taken seriously and really don't belong here.

Al, I think there was only a mention of dimpled Chad. There was never any mention of Hanging him. And besides Chad is a country, you can't hang a country. Anyhow, it's all computerized now anyway.

I had a dimpled Chad but last summer had it surgically repaired.

I, for one, support the president, but this is not the place to be making political statements. I have made very good friends on this board who are 180 degrees away from me politically. But they are excellent people with whom I am proud to know and be associated. But let's stay away from politics.

I for one, want him out too. But I'll do it with my vote.

Sorry Al.
I didn't mean to set off on a tangent... er create a mob scene... er pick on celebrities... doh - oh forget it!

No poor Martha jokes either. Can I still poke fun at the way they talk in Joisey and how large some of the things that come from Texas seem to be getting?

And banjos?

Did anyone notice the Full Moon last night?

". . . And besides Chad is a country, you can't hang a country . . ."

- from what I can recall from old National Geographics, everyone in Chad is already "hung".
