First, thank's for this website full of very interesting tips !
I'm looking for a new guitar and I found (reading different topics here) that guitartrader.com provides very low prices. So low (half european prices  ) that I'm wondering if it's serious !
So my questions are : has anybody bought a guitar here ? And has anybody made international order (I'm living in Europe) ?
Thank's (and sorry for my approximate english
:) )

If you ask, they will tell you the truth. I have no experience with purchasing overseas so I can't help you there. |

Location: SoCal | Was dealing with Guitar Trader last January for an amp. Probably fine if ordering by phone. Recommend checking Al's prices also (bought 4 guitars from him since 1/6/04.) With any phone order, ask the questions especially as to case and which case - is it the case listed on Ovation's site or something else? Make sure it isn't an FRG, etc.
As to a prior message - Mr. Moody, you might want to call the store to see what LX's they actually have on the floor before delaying that tough trip home.
My experience and several others - the 800# salesmen might as well be working for a different company. As I live in San Diego, wanted to save shipping and start using now (Marshall amp.) Said they had inhouse inventory, friend went over to get it for me, had been out of stock for at least two weeks. Wasted his time. Obviously, their databases of inventory are not integrated. |

Location: Scotland | Before you consider importing a new guitar to Europe, you need to factor in shipping of around $100 plus import duty and sales tax which varies from country to country but is around 20-25% of the declared insurance value. If the guitar comes via a courier such as UPS or similar you won't get away with the import charges, and legitimate traders will not under-declare the value. Some US dealers such as Musicians Friend wont ship to Europe |

Location: Canton (Detroit), MI | Going back to what Goober mentioned....I bought a guitar (my Epiphone Casino) from Music123 last summer and had no problem at all. But I could see a lot of room for trouble if something had been wrong or not as advertised......it was not packed well, and directions for how to deal with a problem were sketchy at best!!!!

Location: Tampa, Florida | I have bought 3 guitars from Guitar trader mail order and have been very happy. Ask for Steve Parr, he will treat you right. I also went to their store in san diego and it was a great place, lots of nice acoustic guitars. I recommend them. |

Location: SoCal | One of the points I was trying to make is that you need to actually check with the store if you are going there looking for an LX or other specific guitar.
The guys on the 800# may have it in their inventory to sell but the item may not be available in the store.
Especially with Paul M. having to go up I-5 through Del Mar area, wasting an hour going to the store would probably result in heavy traffic back to Orange County. |

or at least I could meet you half way. I'm out in San Carlos area, almost to La Mesa, and a couple of miles from El Cajon. |

Before the gas crunch in '73, watching the Watergate hearings @ 4:00 AM, before Uncle Sam's Flying Club changed my life flight plan. OB was still cool, Funky Quarters hadn't been torched yet, and Pete Wilson was ineffectual & grandiose. Contrary to popular belief, I did attend a few classes. It's just a coincidence the waves were breaking sweet only on Wednesdays during the Limnology lab. Really, I had my priorities- I can read tide tables! |

I mailed guitartrader. For western Europe, shipping runs 130 USD, including insurance.
Time delivery is about 1 week.
Now it's time to make my mind ;) !
Thank's again !

I had zero hitches, they were absolutely superb. Just bought a Guild 12 string from them last week, and it was packed well, and just fine otherwise. Thing is with 123, they have a real store to visit if you want to see your axe live, called Woodwinds and Brasswinds in South Bend, IN. They do not let you know this too easily, but I live close and figured it out. W&B is a huge store, probably arounde 30,000 ft. store with an enormous 75,000 ft. warehouse attached to it and is located on I-90 (Indiana Toll Road) just west of South Bend. Worth a visit, but not limited to guitars, so guitar space is only 1/4 of the store, unlike a G.C.
Best regards... |
